Lawson set to leave Pakistan post

Pakistan
comment on the article

Geoff Lawson's tenure as Pakistan coach will end when his contract ends next April after the Pakistan Cricket Board decided not to offer him a new deal.

The 50-year-old Australian signed a two-year deal to succeed Bob Woolmer, who died at the 2007 World Cup.

Under Lawson, Pakistan have lost Test series to South Africa and India, and failed to reach July's Asia Cup final.

"The day his contract expires he will be no more with the Pakistan team," said PCB chairman Ijaz Butt.

What is your reaction to the news and who do you think should/will replace Lawson?

I have no blame for Lawson under his coaching we have seen an improvement in Pakistan's batting .
However Pakistan's bowling attack is in dire problems . Umar Gul is great if he has fitness , but the demise of drug cheat Asif and aging of Shoaib has left Pakistan vulnerable .

The only homegrown coach capable of making pakistan a competitive team again is Aaqib Javed but sadly politics is allowed to interfere with sports . The Pakistani's sadly are incapable of being effective leaders .

Imran is the only cricketer that brought some result for Pakistan cricket. Ask him to select and fire all the clowns of PCB.

I know lets sack the coach....... an obvious knee jerk reaction to a weak and tired current cricket structure in Pakistan. Instead of hiring and firing people at will and making a complete circus of things why dont they have a long term strategy like the Aussies and the English and bring through real tallent with a good national cricket structure !!!
When will these people learn ?

Bringing in hired guns from other countries may lead to short time improvement. However, once the locals see that its not magic, just hard work and focus, they tend to get a little angry with the coach instead of the players.

I'd let Pakistan find their own way, with their own leaders. At best, put the ex-pat in the background. Pay them, but put the focus on the Pakistan leadership.

"i think lawson was very big headed and yes useless as a coach. we need home grown coaches."

Indeed, his head is big. Literally so.

Pakistan was too big a team for Lawson to manage leave alone to lead it. He needs coaching rather than cricket experience and he seems to train himself on Pakistan. Pakistan does not need foreign coach and as history indicates it performs well under local coach. Let Alam be 'The One...'

Is the homegrown coach guarantee to the success of Pak cricket team? Dont think so...

Don't expect any change or improvement unless the PCB go through a full re-structure.

It seems someone has tipped the Govt to make him coach so he can make some money and make use of his power.
