Barton V Sunderland

Premier League Newcastle United
comment on the article

What are your thoughts on the article is the News of the World that Barton may Play against Sunderland, he is to play a friendly against Boro and if JK thinks he is fit he will either start him or put him on the bench.

Me, well I think its a good move to bring him back into the team, but bring him into a heated derby v Sunderland I am not sure that’s such a good idea.

However only time will tell if Barton can turn his past around.

Strange how none of his teammates have come out in his defence.

Or maybe I've missed it.

The lad has become a legend in football for all the wrong reasons. Sylvestre says that he turned down a chance to go to Newcastle because Barton was there. How many others did the same?

And how many are just waiting to get him or goad him into getting sent off/banned?

He's a liability, I'm afraid. But you can't blame KK, it was Allardyce who brought him and the lardy chairman who sanctioned the signing.

Barton say "I'm in last chance saloon"

He's been in the last chance saloon already, punched people from behind, beaten up young lads, and burnt the place down in a cowardly fasion.

Barton says "I want to be a role model"

He'll never be a role model, just an example of why it is important to gain an education.

If he had good sense he would keep a low profile and concentrate on being a professional footballer (in a professional manner).

a role model for would-be thugs. that's all.
Even if he acted like a saint for the rest of his life, he'd still be a thug. Leopards and spots.
Why is he still employed in professional sport? Oh yes, that's right, football has no morals and no balls, which is only slightly ironic.

I'd never take the cause of someone like Barton, but it's a strange position into which we put people like him.

We want physical aggressive footballers out there playing for our teams. Some of the players seem to play in a continuous state of aggrevation and rage. Yet, when they're off the field we expect them to behave like choir boys.

Should be we shocked when guys like Barton, Duncan Fergesun, Mike Tyson go nuts and hurt people?

Good point, Dempsey'srevenge. From being kids, the players are told to get suck in and show "commitment". Managers do nothing when their players harrang and insult officials. Cloughie used to fine his players for back-chatting the ref. Those days are gone. Now it's cool to be aggressive both in and out of football.

The result is the Joey Bartons of this world. And his brother, of course.

You are having a laugh!!! Barton wants to be a role model to who?, for me Barton would be the poster child for pro-abortion lol, I believe every one deserves a 2nd chance but in Barton's case it might be 5th or 6th I lost count.

I'm not shocked about the behaviour anymore but it is totally wrong and there should be a better punishment system for criminal activity.

If a player has taken drugs even recreational drugs not performance enhancing drugs, the guy would be banned from 6 months to a few years.

Danny Cadamarteri and Lee Bowyer spring to mind. I'm not 100% certain on who banned them but I don't think it was their clubs and if there is a code of conduct for this then there should be for criminal behaviour and activity. A player signing any professional contract just sign a code of conduct with FIFA and if they break this, they should be fined, suspended or banned.

barton can't change his ways, this is a bit of a pathetic attempt to get some respectability back, but i reckon he's lost more by doing this. he should just accept that he can't change the past

Barton has said that he will change his ways on all of the second chances he has had... can he do it this time? probably not but only time can tell!
