Villa and then Casillas to win it. Both were immense for Club and country. Ronaldo was only riding on his teammates. He's nothing without them as was shown when Portugal couldn't even score against 10-man Albania.

Blasphemy! Don't you know it's forbidden on 606 to question the assertion that Ronaldo is the best player in the world? Heaven forbid anyone should attempt to expose him as a fraud who relies on his teammates to make him look good.

I would love for Messi to win, he is the most naturally gifted player in the world and such an intelligent player though he didn't win trophys last season, so doubt he will. Ronaldo will proabbaly win even though when Man United played Barcelona Messi outplayed Ronaldo who seems not to turn up in the big games. Though on current form even though Valencia had a poor season David Villa could maybe get into the top 3, he is outstanding player and seems to score in every game.

Bit of a ridiculous post don't you think?
You obviously don't like Ronaldo because your an Arsenal fan, and state you like watching Barcelona, so therefore you would like Messi to win? or another..
Ronaldo scored 40+ goals (one helping to win the CL) and won 2 major trophies, no-one came close to this achievement this year

Ronaldo thought he'd done enough to win it in May, so he's done stuff all since.

Messi has been cooking however, & would definitely get my vote.

1. Messi
2. Gerrard
3. Oh OK, the Prancer.

If Ronaldo wins it will make a mockery of it and actually be insulting to other nominees and previous winners. The amount of chances and shots that he wastes is incredible. Prime example, last time Man U played Hull, the draw, he had two brilliant chances when he was clean through on goal and missed them both. If he was even half as good as people say he is, he would have put them both away. The likes of Messi would have scored every time. He just an attention seeking poser. Prime axample of that: champions league final, when they won the shoot-out, the whole team ran to the goals to celebrate, EXCEPT Ronaldo who just lay in the middle of the pitch pretending to cry. Also, his free kicks are WOEFUL. The most wasteful free-kick taker ever. And the way he stands with his legs 2m apart before hand is absolutely ludicrous and unnecessary.

The only thing Ronaldo is actually good at is heading. Perhaps ironic to mention that after Sunday though!

Top 3:
Rooney
Messi
Gerrard

Ronaldo will probably win it this year, next year is going to be an interesting contest with the likes of Messi, Ribery, Lampard, Eto'o all on fire so far this season. Even Ibisevic could win it if he guides his team to the Bundesliga.

Does anyone know whether the award is for the calendar year 2008 or the season 07/08?

Whoever says Ronaldo doesn't turn up in big games is clearly blinded by their own jealousy.

Ronaldo scored against Arsenal away, Liverpool at home and Chelsea in the EUROPEAN CUP FINAL!

dohdohdoh

Probably the biggest club game in the world? Yes that one...

Not to mention he scored 42 goals in a season, i'm pretty sure if any other player scored that many you would be glad to boast about how good they are, but since it's Ronaldo...

Oh well, I'd happily take the Premiership & European cup double over any other awards so i'll leave all the bitters to squabble.
