Scotland V Boyd

Euro 2012 Scotland
comment on the article

My opinion is the manager should have giving him a chance to prove his loyalty to Scotland instead of not playing him Scotland needs all the help it can get right know just to be able to even get through. Even though I am a celtic supporter I think boyd did the right thing by quiting This is Scotland if you have a problem with a player take your problem behind closed doors not on the field where we need all the skilled players we can get. In my opinion he should have played.. we are up against Holland in the next game which is a good team and after that it gets harder

Thanks
David

My view on the Kris Boyd story is this.
If an international manager picks you for his squad it means you are GOOD enough to play for your country no matter if you are a first team club player or not. If he then does not play you but comes out publicly and states you are not showing the right attitude and need to establish yourself at club level before you`ll be considered, it shows me two things.
1. The manager has not got a clue what he is about or why he picked you in the first place OR 2. He knows he`s F`d up big style and is trying to cover his a--e.
Whilst I have some sympathy for Boyd he should have discussed his position with Burley privately first and then if he was not happy made his decisionto step back from the squad.

I agree with all you have said 1Wattie.
I am not a OF fan but Kris Boyd's scoring record should have been enough for Burley to put him on fr the second half at least.
I said when Burley got the job as Scotland's manager,he could not pick his nose never mind a football team.

Compare and contrast Boyd and his buddies platitudes with Mick McCarthy's support of Iwelumo:

'McCarthy hailed the maturity Iwelumo has demonstrated in dealing with the fall-out from last weekend.

"I think he should be admired for the way he handled it," added the Wolves boss.

"He went in and said, 'Missed a chance, sorry lads, let's get on with it' - and that's just what he's done.

"He's a great bloke and I'm really looking forward to having him back." '

Kenny 6 hate to agree it but the WC 10 is not looking good, but I hope we get through. Boyd is good enough and arguably would have got a goal, he usually does. However he has shown a childish atitude, there are countless other good players who have never even made the squad and won't do because of who they play for. Another travesty was big Dunc in Euro 92, Roxburgh and his 5'6'' forward line against the 6' plus Germans, master stroke, oh I forgot Big Dunc was t DUFC at the time! I am quite fed up of this one for the future drivel on our young starlets who tend to do reasonably well at U21 level and below and are then left to rot when over age. We played experimental in the Kirin Cup and won it. The old guard has to go now Ferguson, Weir, Naysmith et al and get the young boys in. Kenneth, Barr etc. They wil only get experience by playing for the first team and they stand against most of the current squad on an equal footing, they face them every week. In sum Boyd should grow up and get his head down and graft. If all players at whatever level threw their teddy in the corner at not being picked, then football would be in an awful state. Poor example to show to youngsters. The famous words If at first you don't succeed try, try again!

Again I agree with Kenny 6, I can't see Scotland making it to South Africa i'm afraid, although like most i'll keep my fingers crossed. With resepct to the Boyd situation I am a little torn in my view. No one can argue that the boy has a great scoring record etc etc, however, having followed his career it is clear that he more often than not fails to shine at the higher levels of the game. In several european games Boyd featured in last year he was at times completely out of his comfort zone and could only be described as toothless. Perhaps that had something to do with the system in which he was playing but perhaps not.
Anyway irrespective of all that his attitude has left a lot to be desired in the wake of the Norway game, I guess anyone could understand his frustration but for any wee lad that's dreamed of having the talent and opportunity to represent their country, his decision is unthinkable.

As for Burley, I do rate him as a manager but I agree with the points that 1WATTIE made, Burley's approach suggests that his planning for the game and his squad selection in light of his comments after Boyds announcement lack consistency.

Let's hope this story ends soon.
It is getting boring.
Who's gonna come out next week and talk about Boyd vs Scotland? Coisty? Gordon Smith? Queen Lizzy? George Bush? God?
It's gone! He's no playin for Scotland!
But I see what will happen when we get to the finals of the WC 2010 - All the gers supporters will be crying "take Boyd with ya george".
Then this is gonna start all over again!
Boring!

ętwasneme...
You may be right this is getting a little trite and I agree that come 2010 if we qualify the Gers fans and probably Boyd too will be crying out to let him back into the fold but by then it will be too late. If we qualify without him he doesnt deserve to travel with the rest of the boys.

kris boyd will start or he will quit scotland, wait for a new manager-who will play him, or he will quit again and wait for another manager who will pick him.

I always ask Rangers to bring Boyd on when they need a goal in a big game. I can't understand why any opposition fan WOULDN'T want him on. He never scores in big games so although i suspect all Norwegians wanted Body on i can't understand why any Scotland fans would.
