Sunday's gossip column

comment on the article

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo...

A little over six months ago, Birmingham City beat Manchester City 3-1 at St Andrews.

Today, Manchester City are linked with a £100m swoop for Kaka, Fernando Torres and Gianluigi Buffon while Birmingham reportedly have one per cent of that amount to spend on Peterborough's Craig Mackail-Smith.

Isn't it strange how things go...

Away from Manchester City's targets - and, let's face it, seeing them linked with a different £30m player every day can get slightly tedious - a few other bits of gossip stand out.

Kevin Doyle is having a great season and has had some success in the Premier League, but is he worth £7m of Aston Villa's money? And what about Wayne Routledge - he has started just 19 league games since leaving Crystal Palace in 2005, but could he do a job at Wolves, a team that is perhaps in need of wingers with Michael Kightly and (former Gillingham player) Matt Jarvis out injured.

And who has a view on events at boardroom level? Tony Jimenez to replace Damien Comolli at Spurs - OK it is only chat and rumour, but what if it were to happen...

Finally, which rumours have grabbed your attention? All mentions of multi-million pound Gillingham signings gratefully recieved.

Ta.

Liverpool fans should worry because their is a real possibility of Torres going to City. We are not talking about alot of money here, we are talking about a HUGE amount of money.

As said before, Torres took a pay cut to go to Liverpool so he could play in the Champions League so why the hell would he drop down a level professionally just to line his pockets...he's already made it publicly known that he's not interested in a move.

I can't see why City want to sign a top goalkeeper in January when they have one in the making already - in Joe Hart. David James may be the England no.1 at the moment but not for much longer. Forget Carson and Robinson - neither of which are good enough to play for England, Joe Hart has all the makings of being an exceptional goalkeeper - as good as David Seaman in his prime, possibly even better. Why are they trying to lure Buffon from Juve?? ... this is why we've had such a dearth of quality english keepers because even the best ones like Hart simply aren't given enough time to develop. He's a class apart from any other english keeper bar James but is closing in on James fast.

Can't see City getting Kaka either as it's unlikely this season that City will be in the Champs lge for nxt season - if Milan finish in top 4 of Serie A Kaka won't leave them to join City in the Uefa Cup - not all top footballers are like Robinho. Even persudaing Torres will be tough as he gets on with Benitez very well. If City do sign any more big names it won't be til nxt summer but can't see them getting any of the three players mentioned above.

Any fan including City fans should realise that if City dont get into the champ league this season they have no chance of getting the above...

But when Torres says publically he wants to stay at LFC, that doesnt mean he wants to go, Torres went to Liverpool because he wanted to play with Rafa and he loves Liverpool.

Kaka wont leave AC, to go to city... City cant do a Chelsea when there not even in the CL.

City are absolutely rubish and will not get any of these players. The players that they want are already being payed enough and are playing far higher quality football then they would get at Man city. Just silly suggesting they will get them

Well i think your predictions off just a wee bit Gavinni, might want to put the magic 8 ball down eh?

As has already been stated, he took a pay cut to come to liverpool, he himself has stated that he would play for no other English team and when he leaves liverpool it would be a return to Spain.

He's already proved it this summer, by avaoiding Chelsea's advances, and lets face it even though they might not be the richest club anymore, they are way above Citeh up the pecking order.

Im sure city will pick up a few world class mercenaries, but to be fair i think Chelsea got all the good ones years ago.

Think the papers must be a running dry on stories at the minute, have to repeat the same old tripe over and over...
