Andy Murray has won his second consecutive Masters Series title after a tough two sets win over Frenchman Gilles Simon in the final today. Murray, who had knocked out World Number two Roger Federer in the semis, had too much for a tiring Simon who was appearing in his maiden Masters Final after a thrilling win over Nadal in the last four. Murray's win moves him closer to the top three and in particular Novak Djokovic. He now travels to Russia to defend his title in St Petersburg before returning to western Europe in the final Masters Series event of the season, in Paris. Murray then has a couple of weeks to prepare for his first Masters Cup in Shanghai next month.

Murray's place in Shanghai is already assured, and is 4th in the ATP Race and Rankings. His chances of catching Djokovic in 3rd are impossible, but Davydenko is 103 points behind in 5th. His final position should only matter when the group draw is made in Shanghai.

Jimmy....
Working hard does not simply mean pushing weights...its total and complete dedication to one's ambition....which is what all the best tennis players in the world do. Murray has done that with diligence this season.
Am very happy for you that you could lift 2 Rafa's above your head before having breakfast Jimmy...but could you beat him in a game of tennis? laugh

clearly you are a Murray hater, thats the only reason for your daft comments...

Having reached a Slam final at a young age, who knows how he will push on, but the great thing to me, is that he can and does beat the top 3 guys .... if they respect him, then us know alls must respect that.

Jim, keep pumping the iron ......turns brain into muscle

OK. Sure.

Andy Murray will win a Grand Slam, like what, after some 100 years since a Britisher has won anything in Tennis.

Congratulations. And start the celebrations already.

What is a 'Britisher'?! Are you German? The phrases and the regimented way you wrote the post suggest you are. Are you ginger like Boris Becker?

Surprise you have time to post though, what with all that defending my honour you're doing in Belgium - or have you made it to Poland now?

He's too busy benchpressing Nadal at the moment to respond, wait till tomorrow smiley

I firmly believe that Andy's anger about his play in earlier seasons has driven him to improve all aspects of his game. You need that drive to scale the heights of the game.

Jim states
"when i was in uniform i used to carry a 200lb backpack together with a pmk high velocity machine gun up a 30,000 foot mountain".

Mmm! Mount Everest highest mountain in the world: height 29,035 feet. Not the brightest our Jim.

Jim isn't really lying: he only wants our approval.

He's just like the strange drunkard down the local pub that you smile at and humor in the hope he doesn't bottle you.

Spot on Motty - Murray is a very sharp guy to have worked out exactly what needed improving. I think he took as much from Gilbert as he could and was ready to strike out alone when he did.

Bring on the Fed-style domination! biggrin

"random...I would agree that we didn't see an exhibition of shot-making yesterday, but that wasn't what that match was about. It was about two closely matched players maintaining a high level of pressure. And for the last two sets it was Murray who was doing it the better, by quite some margin actually.
"

I agree with that. Murray was by far the better player over the 3 sets and Fed was pretty fortunate the scoreline was as close as it was. If Murray had gone after the break points a bit more he'd probably have won the last set comfortably (though I can't really blame him playing for a Fed mistake since they were coming fairly often at that point)

I still think (and hope!) that we'll see much higher quality tennis between the two of them in the future. Maybe very soon...
