So we've picked up more fans as we rose in the league - now that doesn't happen to other clubs does it...

Yes, our attendance during the great escape was very low. City needed people back then, and didn't have them. It's debated at length on other boards - but you'll find City attracted back it's fans when we moved into the KC. We had 20000+ attendances in Division Three. That's hardly glory supporting.

Real Sociopath - You responded to me talking about our great escape by saying you knew our history, but your original question was "What have they been saved from..?" So surely you knew before you asked the question.

You seem to be thinking this thread is claiming Hull City have secured a place in the Premier League for next season. I don't. It's a thread which coincides with a lot of local media coverage about it being exactly 10 years since one of our darkest days.

I think you'll be hard pushed to find any Hull City fan who is complacently expecting us to stay up. There's a long way to go yet - but since this is our first time here - try and forgive us for enjoying the ride.

Real Sociopath - gates started to rise during "The Great Escape" - on several occasions the attendances were severely limited because of the decrepit state of large parts of the ground. As these were brought back into repair the capacity increased to around 14,000 - our highest attendance was above 13,900 during the run.

I agree DJ. Adam Pearson was the man there when we needed him the most, and guided us out of near extinction.

I find it really sad though, that there is no permanent acknowledgement of this.

Look at Blackburn's treatment of Jack Walker - Pearson in a way did more for us than Jack Walker did for them, they would have still existed without him, they just wouldn't have won the title. - they have named one of their stands after him.

To show our gratitude, I think we should name the east stand for him - It would be a hell of a lot more imaginative than "East Stand". It even works with sponsorship. "The Ideal Standard Adam Pearson stand"

We need some permanent recognition of the man who gave us back our club.

maybe i could be given recognition aswell you see i moved to hull in 98,at the time my team were riding high in the second tier looking at promotion to the prem. i got a job over her working with a lot of city fans and i used to love ribbing themabout city but oh how the tables have turned, and its my turn to take it on the chin. i have two boys born in hull and they will be tigers supporters as its there home town. Good luck for the rest of the season city.ok

i agree bernstein.. there should be a tribute....
warren joyce also deserves a mention for what he did, but if it wasnt for pearson we would have had season after season of those struggles and would have probably succumbed in the end.. it was adam pearson who pulled us out permanently.. i hope people dont forget that when where marching into europe winkeye

I have to agree, Adam Pearson dug City out of the mire. He was key to getting investment in the club and bringing in Peter Taylor to manage (another one who deserves a big mention). Without him we would still be sat playing in the best stadium in league 2.

Pearson was the saviour of football in this city, he was the first man to really take a chance on our club, and our city. He started it all going, many others have played big parts, (Taylor, Duffen and Brown - even the likes of Molby and Parkinson - who both failed, but some of there signings have been legendary)

I think some fans of other clubs get bitter when they see a team who had been struggling for years, finally come good. And are also jealous because we have a brilliant board who have the club and fans at heart, and arent in it for a quick buck.

This is groundhog day on this subject.

Facts are;

1. Pearson did a really good job - period. Has been acknowledged by all including me.
2. Pearson acquired the club for (almost) NOTHING, i.e. he and backers had NOTHING to lose.
3. I Revene & VAT & shareholders lost out
4. Name anyone who put money into the club at RISK and got nothing out of it other than ensuring the faithful 5,000 had a team to support. - Rhetorical question, because everyone just about remained anonymous.

Build a bust, name a stand/road etc after Pearson - who cares. The name is HULL CITY not Adam Pearson and his is just one on the list, but near the top granted, but it's profit motivated. Others did it for the love of Black & Amber.
