Who's favourite for victory in Japan?

comment on the article

Hello there. I'll be looking after the live qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix and the race itself this weekend.

It would be great to get your predictions and thoughts ahead of the action in Fuji.

Lewis Hamilton was feeling pretty confident after edging out Ferrari's title rival Felipe Massa in Friday practice.

"We made some good steps forward," said the McLaren driver. "The car is competitive here and that's always a good sign that we can push on for the win this weekend."

Last season, Hamilton started on pole and went on to take the chequered flag in a thrilling wet race in Japan.

Do you expect a repeat of that performance this time around?

Massa and Ferrari are desperate to get back on track after failing to score in Singapore.

Hamilton holds a seven-point lead over Massa with three races left to go. Do you reckon the Englishman will extend his advantage by the end of Sunday and have his first world title within reach?

And after Fernando Alonso scored a tactical victory to top the podium in Singapore, following Sebastian Vettel's win in Italy, could we be in for another surprise winner in Fuji?

Having watched footage of practice sessions 1 and 2, it would seem that there is not much to choose between Ferrari and VMM, with Alonso looking strong as well. I suspect the Toyota's performanced was not indicative of true form.. therefore, given no rain, as would seem to be the general concensus, then it is a close call. If my mathematics are correct, LH only needs to finish second in each race.. even if Massa wins every one, he would still be a point adrift. AND every race that Massa does NOT win, means at least a one place lower finish required by Lewis to the DWC.. A finish for Massa below third would be a nightmare for him.

Rain, if and whenever/wherever it occurs, will only play into VMM's hands.

Yet again, The DWC is Lewis's to lose!!

That's what I thought.

McLaren seem to have the edge so far this weekend so it will be difficult for Ferrari to get both cars in front of Hamilton which is what they really need to do.

However, Renault so far look like they could possibly upset the McLaren-Ferrari apple cart.

Yes, Mav, I agree Renault, particularly FA, look strong (again!!) and if they do get into the mix, it potentially I feel hurt Ferrari more than VMM

I would like to see both Lewis and Massa having to start from the back of the grid. We would really get to see who is the best then.

Picking up comments from other articles re engine 'Jokers' I reckon VMM MUST play it this weekend for Lewis, and 'wind up the wick' in quali to get as near to the front as possible, and hopefully gain at least P2.

I think Heikki Kovalainen will be on pole. McLaren will fuel him very light in order to control the race. The ideal outcome for them will be if Hamilton gets past him and then Kovalainen can play blocker.

Ferrari can't do the same with Raikkonen because they can't compromise his own race as they need him to finish ahead of Hamilton.

There seems to be a lack of interest in this race. Perhaps everyone is already asleep ready for the early start? Perhaps I should be too?

Anyway, here's a collection of handy links to get everyone up to speed with the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji:

When ever a driver seems to be slower or not as bold as Hamilton on the track they put in a protest why cant they just face it Hamilton is by far the best driver there is in F1 at the moment. lesve him do what he can do best and that is win the F1 title in an McLaren(NOT A FERRARI. Go Lewis and show them who is boss)
