Kremlin Cup final

It is the final tomorrow (Sun) in Moscow's tier 1, Kremlin Cup.

World number one and number one seed Jelena Jankovic meets Vera Zvonareva, the rejuvenated, superb, Beijing bronze medallist and number seven seed.

I believe of all current players, Zvonareva is the competitor Jankovic will least prefer to play.

Vera Zvonareva has a not dissimilar game to the world number one and since appointing Monsieur Samuel Sumyk as her coach hasn't looked back, and is currently performing as well as anyone in the world, including JJ!

JJ may secure her third consecutive tournament victory!
An amazing achievement.
Vera Zvonareva will be persistent throughout the entire match, persuading the mistress of counter-defence that whatever Jankovic throws at her, will return with interest, even the notorious 'one more ball'!

Zvonareva is adamant she's going to make the year-end championships, next month in Doha.
Victory in Moscow would greatly assist, and the world number one will have to use all her skills, all her game psychology to obtain the Kremlin Cup title.

I take Jelena Jankovic to secure such a victory after a tumultuous battle!

Proceedings are set to commence at 10.30 hrs UK time, live on ES.

Good luck, of course, to both finalists in this $1.34m tournament.

The Jelena from these 2 last weeks is a new Jelena. For the first time she seemed to be something like an allround-player, serving well, volleying amazingly well, playing every stroke with a new sense of confidence. She's enjoying her number 1 spot which is allowing her to show all her potential for the first time. She looks like a solid number 1 for the next months. Let's hope with this new gained confidence she's able to win a grand slam soon

duggietoo,

What you said is fine with me, but observer said that I "stole" his word! It simply canīt be true -- first of all I have only been a member for 3 days, but more importantly, I am using the word correctly, and he used it(in his post)falsely (he failed to capitalize it!)

Jelena Jankovic - world number one due to excessive number of tournaments played. Hope she never wins a slam because she's plain awful smiley. A pure insult to the other players who have become number one because she isn't in the same league.

---------------------
Not really -countable events are the same for all - unlike the race.

Bit mean wishing "non success" to any player.

I dont enjoy some of the recent antics but she could easily do as well as Shara.

Congrats Jelena!

I know that I have been critical of Jelena in the past but I think that this week has been a turning point for the Serbian star.

I can't see her losing for the rest of 2008 and if you were looking for a good bet for the AO then look no further than JJ. Her three week dominance of the tour has been remarkable.

I would also like to congratulate JJ on a different level. She looked like a no1 this week. In Stuttgart she came across as petulant(I even started a thread about it), this week she came across as the complete no1, personable, engaging and not overdoing it, she charmed the Moscow crowd.

A GS is definitely in store foe 2009 and a victory at the YEC will also boost her confidence.

Well done JJ!!!!

Nastyano1

That's a lovely positive post you've submitted.

I take on board your sentiments.
JJ is still a very young woman and like Ana Ivanovic I'm sure was overwhelmed :-
1) By being world number one.
2) The savage world-wide criticism which accompanied the achievement and
3) The shortness of it's duration! (one week!).

I believe it's clear Nastyano1, JJ was pained by the loss and determined to regain the position and hold.

Jelena Jankovic has matured a lot these last few months with rapidly changing experiences, highs (world number one, major final) and lows (losing major final and number one slot).

She's presenting as you say Nasty, as a world number one and she loves it!

JJ!! bubbly

Yes, when someone reaches the pinnacle of sporting excellence, there is always someone there trying to knock them. This is a fact of life. JJ will always have her critics even after she has won Grand Slams.
I was hasty in my dismissal of her last week but this week she seemed.... so much more mature.
You mention the losses... every player has to experience loss before they experience unbridled success. The loss of the US final was in a way a good thing for JJ. It gave her extra motivation and look at her now!!
I can also guarantee you that in the off season no player will work harder ( Yeah, she'll take a holiday or two but after that it will be strictly work)
Imagine if she turned her serve into a major weapon?
If she's tough to beat now...

I somshow suspect that Jankovic may be hitting form at the wrong time of the year....

What form will she be in January?

Let's see....

I would say too tired. Lets hope she regain the form fully ASAP.
