Ranieri has just made a clown of himself (if he didn't before).

Would i swap a bit more pace in sacrifice of striking a ball from anywhere on the pitch (sometimes the half way line), an eye for an inch perfect pass to anywhere on the pitch and more vision than a bloke with eyes in the back of his head?

Is this a joke? Slower than Fabregas? He goes from box to box compared to Alonso. Check their Opta index stats. Alonso is more static but with a brilliant range of passing.

Molby, Schuster and even the great Zidane weren't exactly pacey either, but like Alonso their class and football brain ensured they were not embarassed on the football field due to their lack of pace.

No he has not. If you actually read Ranieri's comments, you'll realise that he didn't criticise Alonso for being a bad player due to his lack of pace. He acknowledged the player's lack of pace and simply said he would not suit his team. Ranieri said that this was because Camoranesi and Nedved do not track back. Therefore, if Alonso played for Juventus alongside those two, there would be problems as Alonso would have very little freedom to execute his brillian passing.

At Liverpool, Alonso has Gerrard who bombs up and down, Mascherano who sits deep and even Kuyt on the right who works up and down all game. All Ranieri is aying is that Alonso would not work in the Juventus midfield. His comments are very sensible and if anyone has made a clown of themself it is in fact you. He never once said Alonso was a bad player.

A similar example can be seen in the Argentina side. I rate Riquelme as the best footballer in the world right now and he is lazier and slower than Alonso. Yet, he operates well in the Argentina side because he often has Mascherano (sits deep), Cambiasso (box-to-box), Lucho (box-to-box) and even at times the energetic Zanetti doing the dirty work for him.

Even though he doesn't have the shot or speed as gerrard, i believe that he is the best passer on the team and can get the game going so well on his day, a bit like the pirlo of liverpool. Would have loved it if wenger was able to sign him for arsenal :D

If i recall Alonso was man of the match against manchester utd... well there midfeild cost more then your average Burnley centre half but that proves how good alonso is. I assume this is just journalists trying to stir up some stories while theres nothing to write about in the international break other then a very dull england win.

But if the rumours are true then frankly if you dont want to play for liverpool then dont. Man city strongly believe they will overspend monsterous amounts on people like torres but if he came to liverpool lowering his wages and denying offers from utd and chelsea why would he move to a smaller club.

Alonso is a great passer and yes he is slow but he covers more ground the kuyt in a game. He needs to come forward and shoot more accurately so he gets appriciated. He just keeps getting injured all the time and takes ages to get to his best. In the 05/06 he never got injured, produced wonder passes and scored goals out of this world. If he were to leave then he should be replaced by top quality. Gerrard and Masherano is oblivously one of the best midfeild about but lucas doesnt do it for me at all, too young and average. I think weve messed Barry about too much and he's hardly nippy is he.
