Cipriani and Lewsey in training punch-up

European Wasps

Well guys, not only is Wasps sitting towards the bottom end of the Premiership table with what must be pretty low morale, team mates of this year's biggest disappointment so far are now laying into each other on a training pitch.

I hope for the sake of the England national side that Cipriani doesn't get injured in the next few weeks because he is starting to gain messiah like qualities with his impending selection into the elite squad. Who is there to choose if Cips is busted up...Hodgson? As a Bok supporter I would love that :) The full article from Keo...get with the programme beeb...

England pair in punch-up

Posted in European Cup by JC

England team-mates Danny Cipriani and Josh Lewsey exchanged punches during a Wasps training session on Tuesday.

Wasps play their first European Cup game against Castres on Sunday and the incident, described by one English media sector as a ’show that the competitive juices are flowing’, can’t be good for team morale. Wasps are currently sitting at 10th on the Premiership table having lost four of their five league games.

Both men have since apologised which is significant not just for the club but for England as well. With flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson ruled out of the November Tests due to a knee injury, Cipriani is tipped to step into the limelight alongside Test regulars like Lewsey.

Lewsey's the man! is it true that "soggy chips" is rehearsing for a small part in a sad English melodrama?

Got it in one.

A football player questions a refereeing decision and all the rugger fans are on their high horse.

Two fat stupid rugby thugs get punched into each other, and it's "part and parcel of the game."

And of course they're correct - it IS part and parcel of rugby.

Stick to watching illegal dog-fights, lads - more dignity involved.

-------------------------

Its because Cipriani isn't such a pussy that hes going to make a big deal over one punch. It happens all the time in rugby intentionally or accidently. People get raked all the time.

I play both sports and prefer football as a supporter. But nothing compares to the thrill of winning a difficult rugby match. Punches get thrown and you always end up with a couple of bruises but its fine. You don't file assault charges at the end.....

In football you can play a whole game without even getting your knees dirty.

Why file assault for one little punch???

"or is it only assault if its football?"

Can only assume that your attempting draw a comparison between the actions of Lewsey and those of Barton.

Let's be frank, trainging ground bust ups happen in football all the time - I do recall seeing pictures of Freddie Ljungberg having a fight with Swedish teammate Mellberg

These things happen and I am pretty sure that all parties concerned are happy for them not go any further.

On the other hand Dabo requested that the police press charges against Barton so that's why it went further.

How much of this must go on in training around the country, indeed the world, every day and we don't hear anything about it?! Come on BBC, this is rugby, rugby = large groups of men with lots of manly emotion all over the place, of course there is going to be this sort of thing! I bet it would all have been forgotten if it wasn't reported on!

Thankyou biggrin Out of interest, does anyone remember a thread about 3 years ago on the English rugby board that had over 6000 posts? I think it was a lot more but I cannot remember the exact number. That was some party!
