Looks like the england players will not be turning millionaires overnight and stanford and digical will be in talks over the next few days to try to save the match

Money to cricket players definitely hasn't done any good to Indian players. Their selectors are facing criticism from their media agents who in turn are paid by the rich cricketers to write for them.

T20 is another interesting form of cricket. But money should be kept away from cricket.

American sports became a scandal with drugging because of such heavy amount of money involved.

What a surprise that anything with the potential to elevate the cricket playing countries of the Caribbean could turn out a complete farce purely due to greed. They are not competent to organise the proverbial p.up in a brewery without getting in to petty politics and penny grabbing!

Sparkle,

What I meant was that as far as Stanford was concerned, it was not important whether it was England, South Africa, or India in the Stanford Super Series. After all, the Texan tried the other two first!

But, yes, the ECB probably see this Super Series as very important to them....

That's unfair, TeaTime. The West Indies did a good job of getting all the stadia ready for the World Cup. It's not their fault that the ICC made the prices and regulations so ridiculously exclusive for the duration of the tournament.

Latest comment by Alistair Cook: This match only about the money, the cricket doesn't count...just about says it all.

The match is back on, after trans-Atlantic discusssions between Stanford and Digicel boss in Ireland....

It seems to have been quite a bit of a leap to say that the match was in doubt, eh?

Interestingly, this story has been broken by the Trinidad Express....

I think this indicates the different way in which the match is being viewed by the different cricket publics.

This is the story you're talking about, Sparkle....

Personally, I couldn't care less if they get a lot of money for it. I don't begrudge them that. It's a series that only takes up a week of the cricket calendar.

Meanwhile, in the real world, some pretty good cricket is underway in Bangalore...!

sivfan: Looks like your article just now has been barred from comment, don't know why.

But I had tried to post this in response to a comment you inserted about how T20 was important for WI cricket and so the implication is that the Stanford series is important too:

If Twenty20 is to be the saviour of west indies cricket, then let it be so...I love the format.

But please, as you know I've been banging on about it, this Stanford thing has nothing of any beneficial nature, to do with cricket or helping anyone except Stanford's business and making dollar millionaires out of the winning players, as most eloquently put by one of those potential millionaires Mr Cook this morning.

If they want T20 to kickstart WI cricket then why don't they bid for the T20 World Cup (it would also allow them to prove they CAN stage world events), and if they want a sponsor then they only have to look in one direction: A certain cricket loving Texan billionaire.

Yeah, Mark Mitchener's link seems to have problems too, for the India-Oz thread....
erm
This is why I'm in favour of Stanford, as a WI fan.

Until recently, athletes were moving away from cricket, because there just didn't seem to be money there. Sports like football were taking up a lot of the athletes.

Now, young athletes are looking at the Stanford competition, and can see that there is a way out of poor circumstances. You see, it's easy for us in a First World country to criticise the pursuit of money.

But I know of a certain former WI cricketer who couldn't afford to buy a car until he made the West Indies team....
