Cricinfo reports that the Australia series will be Ganguly's last

content-ind.cricinfo.com/ind...

Not sure if he will retire from ODI's also

"This will be my last series," said Ganguly at the end of a routine press conference in Bangalore. "Before coming here I spoke to my team-mates and hopefully I will go out with a
winning knock."

so any guesses on who will retire before being pushed? my bet is on dravid.

GB

To be honest

Had Ganguly not been captain he would have been knocked out of the Indian side around long ago

They had to chose between retaining Ganguly skip and retaining either Yuvraj who was in hot form and hit a 100 at Karachi or AKash Chopra

They made the big mistake of dropping Chopra and despite Jaffer only after 3 years we seem to have a stabilised with a hot opening combo in Gambhir and Sehwag

Yeah Ganguly's form as I said was inconsistent, someone who would get few low scores then he suddenly comes up with a big one.

As far as Ghambir is concerned there is no doubt that Aus shouldn't just look out for S'wag but Ghambir as well.

He was a cricketer with some spice. As a batsman, I loved watching his fascinating strokeplay. As a captain he gave me a sort of comfort/assurance that my country was in safe hands. I often felt, if there's any way our team can pull it off, Ganguly will get it done. The best Indian captain I saw. He had that rare killer instinct that Indian players often don't display. I'm sure I'll miss him. But then there are so many memories that these fab four or five have given us over the years. Can't ask anymore of them.

I hope he has a good series, but irrespective of whether he does, he can retire with his head held high. A proud son of India that took it's cricket team places where no other captain ever did. A true Bengal tiger! applause

The process of quitting indeed has begun, although I must admit that it has been forced on Ganguly. Let's forget it all, and look at Ganguly, the cricketer, a man who changed the gloomy picture of Indian cricket to a rosy one. He contribution is uncountable. He will be remembered for many things but I will remember him as someone who eradicated the regional divisions in Indian cricket, an ailment that plagued the game here right from the start.
He also put an end to the concept of individualism in the team.
My eyes have welled up at his leaving the game, but i hope it is all for the better. It would have been better if he had retired of his own accord, but always remember that it had to happen, and the end in sports is not agreeable most of the times.
I salute you Ganguly for all the good work you have done for your country. I wish you well and I hope that whenever you look back on your career may you feel that unbounding joy which not many of us feel in a lifetime.

Gavaskar announced his retirement at a press conference in Lords after scoring a century. His reason for the timing: 'I want to go when people ask why, rather than why not'. I wish all sportsmen would follow his advice!

Gavaskar announced his retirement after Pakistan match in 1987. He fought hard to score 96 but India lost that match. He was in great form even when he announced retirement.

Who knows, probably Ganguly might have been waiting all these years to gain great form and then announce his retirement, not his fault I guess.

Ganguly is getting bitter

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/indvaus2008/content/current/story/373180.html

This is a distraction and can fracture the dresing room during a crucial series Kumble also looks like hev is being pushed

We may see a totally new team after two tests if the seniors squabble with juniors instaed of playing as ateam in a very tough and important series
