Ramprakash receives two-game ban

County championship Surrey
by Ian W - BBC Sport (U1647672) 06 October 2008
comment on the article

Surrey's Mark Ramprakash has been banned from the first two matches of next season's County Championship after being found guilty of swearing at an umpire during a game against Sussex.

What do you think of this punishment? Does it fit the crime, is it too harsh or too lenient?

Great player but it's fair to say that he does have a bit of a reputation on the circuit. The most recent story I heard was him swearing badly at Benning when they batted together in the Pro40 game at Cardiff. Maybe it was the pressure of getting that elusive 100th 100 at the back of his mind, I don’t know, but he was not a happy chappy by all accounts.

Yes, Powelly87. I've lost my temper playing all manner of sports including the gentle games of cricket, tennis and golf; but I've never had huge audiences witness these events and never had 606 articles written about my moral delinquancy. It must be nice to be perfect!

Moby we have all lost out temper at some stage presumably you have not had an audience because you are not up to international standard, however it is not to be encoraged swearing in public but footbl gets away with bad language and attitude all the time and the microphones around the ground pick up all sorts of veryy bad language perhaps football could take a lesson from Cricket after all you cannot here what is being sain on the stump microphone.

He did something wrong he was appropriately fined, end of story as far as I am concerned.

Shame excessive sledging at a personal/family can't be similarly dealt with.

onedotball, Up to international standards? I am in my dreams.

I'm not condoning Mark's behaviour; but a bit of colour here and there does not justify some of the comments that have been made of him, such as, "It provides proof that the man should not be anywhere near the England squad".

I say, as did someone else before me, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

welcome dimitaar

I dont want to start the argument off again but
how can you single out afridi. How about cantona jumping into the crowd, therefore studding someone? Cricket is a gentlemens game. This is one very rare incident that i'm sure will not be repeated again for a long time. Football matches will continue to contain sweraring at officials every game. This is one incident. Each proffesional football game would contain at least a couple of swears. If this much commotion happened for every swear in a football match the BBC website would brake down at the amount of headlines coming in. Imagine it 'Defoe swears at the umpire, now crouch, o and now torres has joined in'.

I witnessed the whole for my sins and Ramps deserves everything he gets. I'm no fuddy duddy but his behavior was appalling. I have seen hime misbehave twice before on a cricket field and on Sky TV this year. He is no innocent
in this regard.
