From this squad my England team would be:
-----------------James-----------------
-Brown--Ferdinand---Terry--Cole-
-Walcott-Gerrard-Lampard-Barry-
----------Heskey----Rooney----------

With Joe Cole out injured, and Ashley Young somehow missing out again, I can't see who is going to operate down the left hand side.

I'm not knocking his goalscoring record, just think that to call him the best proven striker in the world is way over the top. Personally I'd still have him in the squad though, not starting but I'd still back him when called upon

For movement and finish amongst the current batch of fit strkers he's clearly the best and even ranking him historically against strikers such as Ronaldo he measures up. Try watching some football with the sound off or even try some live games if you net nerds arn't afraid of catching cold.

Give me one example, just ONE example, of David Beckham having a good game against a really good international team.

Ok fair point.
Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney - give me one example, just ONE example, of any of these players having a really good game against an international team in the last few years?

Beckham has assisted in 9 of England's last 20 goals - nearly half. I think he does make things happen!

Touchline - I can remember because I was sat in the front row - Germany.

My brain is in gear - just like Capello's. He's got a fairly good football brain eh!

Seeing as Beckham takes every free kick and every corner you would expect someone to get on the end of some of them.
It was a pleasure to see the team playing so well without him against Croatia and long may that continue.

I'd like to see Capello be really brave in the next game and play Walcott and Crouch up front and Wright-Philips on the right. Get loads of pace in the team and let them really have a go; maybe even play a 4-3-3 which the top 4 tend to do will walcott, crouch and rooney up front - England will be the only team trying to win the match and they need to get in early to prevent it being another Andora or worse a Macedonia
--------------------------------------

Thank God this bloke isnt managing England, Walcott and Crouch up front? i'l have something youre smoking please!
keep Heskey and Rooney up front the rest of the team picks itself the only problem is LM/RM i'd be tempted with Downing and Walcott and leave Gerard benchwarming - Lampards proved he has more international quality and better team player against Croatia!

England coach Fabio Capello will start with a three-man attack consisting of Wayne Rooney, Emile Heskey and Theo Walcott against Kazakhstan on Saturday. (Various)

Turns out I wasn't far off

Imagine, Fabio Capello would not have Gerd Muller in his team! Der Bomber used to languish for 86 minutes in all of West Germany's matches in their stunning World Cup of 1970 and winning World Cup of 1974. But he'd pop up to score to help his team to third and first respectively. Me thinks it's a mistake to leave out Owen. Can Owen to play for Australia?
