We’re all going on a European Tour!

Uefa Cup Portsmouth

So then, after what was a very below-par first 45 minutes where we were far to negative and concerned with trying to contain them rather than put pressure on them we came back well to see ourselves through.

Guimares deserved their half time lead it has to be said, they played at a high tempo and pushed us back. However, I think we took control in the second half and if our final ball and crossing had been that much better we would have scored in normal time.

I thought Hughes had a cracking game in the centre, breaking up play well. Johnson and traore in the second half pushed forward a lot more and had the beating of their defence every time.

Superb win and a great pompey following out there guys!

Let’s hope for A.C Milan in the group stage then…san siro here we come!

What did you think of the game then people…

Fair play I see your point. Personally I've never liked 3 at the back but with fall backs like Johnson and Belhadj, great going forward not always so good defensively I suppose this does free them up a little more.

'Maybe all the Crouch doubters on here will be convinced now!'

Never gonna happen. I'm a liverpool supporter and I have a lot of time for Peter Crouch but if the boy scored a hat trick every game the play ground mentality of most footie fans means he'll still get stick....

So sad people can't see past his height and realise what a quality footballer he is.

Crouchy is a hero, great touch, good finisher and a good football brain. Because of his height he will always cause defenders problems.
I think Liverpool should never have sold him but he will do well for Pompey, as Harry will give him the confidence he needs. Him and Defoe will form a great partnership i feel.
Fair play Pompey good result and i look forward to seeing how you do in Europe.

Delighted for Crouch. Always been a good servant.

Since he signed Kaboul it seems Harry feels that he is obliged to play a back four (including full-backs). Perhaps its just me but on the evidence so far this season I don't think it works. Stick with last season's back four Harry, Kaboul should just be for back-up!

Thanks for the positive replies guys.

I was so pleased when Liverpool let him go. There had been speculation since January and I was convinced when we won the cup that he was on his way home.

The San Siro is a wonderful stadium, however the seats have no backs to them!!! really uncomfortable, good luck!

Not able to watch the game, as can't get five signal in my area, but my brother did and said Guimaraes were shot after half time. Pompey were basically fitter over the whole game, and that was the difference.

Great result, though. Like so many, I am licking my lips at the prospect of welcoming the likes of AC Milan, Sevilla, Galatasaray, Benfica, etc to FP. They won't fancy it one bit at our place.

PS. Fatblokeinblue - no, I'm not your (or anyone's) ex-wife. Nice try, though!

PUP!

Really glad Pompey got through, got a lot of respect for Harry Redknapp and a soft spot for Crouchie.

Wish you all the best and hope you get some nice trips away for your first venture into Europe!
