Your questions for Mick Fitz

National Hunt
comment on the article

Hello all

There's a treat for jump racing fans on BBC Radio 5 Live on Tuesday 7 October, 9pm to 10pm.

Former Grand National-winning jockey Mick Fitzgerald will be talking to Mark Saggers and Cornelius Lysaght about his career and the National Hunt world in general.

And we want your input. Submit a question on this thread, and a selection of the best will be put to Fitz.

Keep 'em clean if you can, and we'll be back on afterwards to let you know his answers.

Cheers
HF

How do you think racing would survive if use of the whip was banned?

Do you think that a horse should be disqualified if a jockey receives a suspension for any reason?

How do you feel about the suggestion that jockeys should only be allowed a certain amount of rides per day or season, in order to avoid them becoming worn out psychologically as well as physically?

What is your opinion of water jumps?

Which current and former jockeys do you most admire?

Which races are most fun to ride in? Hurdles or 'chases?

If you could go back in time and ride in one race again, which would it be and why?

Excluding Cheltenham and Aintree which 3 British National Hunt courses did Mick enjoy riding at most. My own three in order of preference for visiting (not riding) are Newton Abott, Fontwell and Exeter. Thanks Mick, Shane in Plymouth

Who are young up and coming jockeys and trainers to look for this season?

Which was the best horse not trained by Nicky Henderson that you rode?

Does Mick feel that the work ethic vis a vis riding out every day then racing plus all the travelling and in addition the meagre diet is overshadowed by what others perceive is a lack of integrity in the sport. To put it bluntly do the likes of Tony McCoy and indeed his goodself fail to get the recognition in the wider world because of this idea that Horse Racing has an image problem.

Ah yes, because Trabolgan has won a Gold Cup, finished second in another, won 2 Tingle Creeks (destroying that seasons champion chaser by 7 lengths while still on the bridle in one) and won 2 King Georges.

ok

Good comparison there.
