One good game doesnt cover up cracks

Premier League Arsenal

A good game tonight answered the critics about Saturdays game. But this is by no means the end of arsenal inconsistencies.

Had a clinical side finished of the chances Porto had the result would have definitely been different. Upfront we converted more chances-to-goals than were accustomed to, which is a good thing, but rare. But defensively it was the same display we had against Hull.

We cannot deal with long balls, Corners, or freekicks. Gallas and Toure are afraid of jumping for the balls and when they do it is often mistimed. That is why adebayor is often there defending corners now, to help them.

In midfield everyone had a good game except denilson. I admit he does have good games but they are too rare. He will never develop into a vieira or flamini, it is not his game he wants to be a flair player, but in the role hes playing, being flair is not important.

I think this season we will definitely be more inconsistent than the other top 4 teams. Ill give it three more games before we start dropping points again.

I was at the game last night, and while the performance was neither outstanding nor awful(I think that the score flattered us a bit), what really annoyed me was the negative attitude of a lot of the people around me. People booed when Eboue was brought on - fine, he isn't the best player, I would have preferref to have seen Ramsey given the run out, but even so, how do people expet him to play well if there's such outright hostility towards him?
People were continually complaining about anything and everything; Gallas, Adebayor, too many passes - and this in a game we won 4-0, against a side that were European champions four years ago! I can only imagine what it was like after the Hull game.
Sorry to make my first 606 post a rant, but I think that a more positive home crowd can only do good things for players with shaky confidence levels.

Just read your post. Sorry I wasn't able to go into much detail in regards to my last post but am busy at work. For someone who puts my post down so much you don't come back with many answers!
Firstly we seem to have a mentality when things aren't going right and we aren't scoring that all it takes is one free kick or corner and we're a goal down, most of the time this is during games we are dominating.Anyone who supports Arsenal would agree, we can be very frustrating to watch and you can feel it in the crowd at the Emirates.I'm sure you'll know this being such a loyal supporter.

My point about the sub bench is true as well. Eboue and Bendtner aren't world class subs, and yes they do make an impact against the lesser teams but none of the big 3-6. How can you compare United who can bring on Anderson and Nani or Chelsea with Joe Cole and Anelka. You would be an idiot to argue their in the same class.

My point on how things will turn out this season fair play is a bit doom mongery but as a supporter I'm just worried with a few injuries we could really be in trouble. Even those who are out now like Eduardo and Rosicky could still relapse. We really need them back ASAP.Right I'm off home so if your gona slate me I won't be able to reply till tomorrow afternoon

What we all seem to missing is that the subs bench as it is at the moment is not a true reflection of the squad. It will take them time to get match fit but we will have 3 'new world class signings' before Christmas. Rosicky, Eduardo and Diaby will make a massive difference to squad depth. Then all we need to do is get big Tony Adams back in as a defensive coach!!! If we can still be there or there abouts when that is sorted then we will be in very good shape.
-----------------------------------------------

How can you call Rosicky, Diaby and Eduardo world class? Do you understand the term world class it means best in the world......
Diaby- no way
Rosicky-no way
Eduardo-no way

not being funny but Eduardo and Rosicky both played fantastically well for their countries. surely that makes them world class?

I think a lot of ru****sh is being said about Eboye. The guy is superb, AC Millan had an eye on him why? Anyway, i'm happy coz AW is the man who decides who stays, plays and goes NOT senseless fanatics.

I couldn't watch it (ITV Scotland, typical!), just followed it on the radio.
Should have had 8 after I saw the highlights, Adebayor missing a sitter as usual, so too Nasri and Walcott.
Eboue not starting - what an impact! Bendtner did well, I've always liked his play (set up the sitter for Adebay).
Hopefully Eduardo is fit soon so we can get a poacher back into the side, desperately need one.
Against a better team who takes their chances we would have been in deep doo last night, thankfully Porto are horrible in defense when travelling and Gallas/Toure got lucky with their corners.

i'm stepping in in defence of emmanuel eboue. The guy is a great defender turned midfielder and Arsenal's so called fantics who does not recognise this, i'm afraid do not have an eye for spotting good and reliable players.

I agree he has some problems in his final and most of the time decisive passes, but that's surely because he used to play defence rather than in the middle of the park as is the case now. Eboue has played a significent role to help Arsenal achieve the ststus as one of the most stylish and enjoyable side to watch, so lets respect that and cheer him on instead, for the best is yet to come for Arsenal, especially with returns of Diaby, Rosicky and Edouardo. This is our season, even if we're leaking goals, the boys are doing their bits up front, and our fluid and impressive style of play, matched by no other in the premier league, will finally do the job for us, and bring hone the title. Let us believe that we are the best side in the league, and in Europe, and that both titles will come to the Emirates before the end of 2010.

In summary, and I'm sure you've heard this a lot, as I have heard the "but he's a great passer/he was a member of a former great Arsenal team/he's loyal, etc.":

I'll sum up my top three problems with him:
- can't shoot. Off-target shooting from 5 yards out on your natural foot is inexcusable (same applies for strikers..).
- can't tackle, frequently out of position and LAZY getting back! Yes, LAZY!
- the feigning injury, inviting tackles-for-free-kicks play, and behaving like a shark attack victim every time he hits the ground are pathetic aspects to his game.

Lads like Wilshere would have been up for a game against Hull like "a rat up a drainpipe".

We don't need half-ar$ed, mediocre players rolling around on the floor for large chunks of the game. We want players fighting for their positions in the squad. Wenger's insistence on playing Eboue makes a mockery of the youth system which he so often highlights.

This is not so much Eboue's problem; it is symptomatic of the lack of depth in the squad, which Wenger has failed to address for two seasons now. But it does mean (established) players like Eboue, whom for whatever reason Wenger takes an immutable liking to, can keep strolling into the midfield and EXPECT to play every week! I'm sorry, but that is a joke!

Let me finish by saying that I will NEVER boo an Arsenal player and never have, those that do are as pathetic as Eboue's on-field tantrums. Eboue is not Cantona-ing the crowd or doing appalling things like Barton off the field - there is absolutely no need for it!

Eboue may be a great, friendly guy, everyone likes him in the squad, etc., etc. - but you don't select players based on whether or not he's a nice guy , which is exactly the sort of impression Wenger gives.

It is simply my opinion that he is of mediocre calibre and is infuriating with his theatrics.

End.
