Berbatov gets Two, Rooney Off the mark too

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

Good performance, though could have had more.

Nice to finally see Rooney play well and for Berbatov to make the scoresheet, the second being a peach.

Nani I thought was frustrating at times, as was Ronaldo, but what about Rafael's first start? Brilliant. Attacking and has one 'ell of a shot on him. And Fabio is supposed the be the better of the twins!

Your thoughts?

what you talking about??? last year nani's set pieces were crucial and he played some excellent end products then.. like at the 4 - 0 win at arsenal..

today nani and ronaldo serviced rooney an berbatov well.. gave them something to attack at.. it wasnt wayward or anything..

nani lost possession only hes end product today was well . so shut up bickering he didnt do well today!!!!!!!!!!

OHH an the set piece against blackburn last year where tevez rescued the win i think it was.. or a draw but yeh!!!!!

Good game, despite the injuries. Hope Rooney and da Silva are ok, they looked like being just little tweeks, Scholes knee seems a lot worse. Which means we are down to the bare bones in terms of midfield. Giggs played really well in the middle after coming on for Scholes so thats not a problem. And with Fletcher, Anderson and O'Shea we should just about have enough cover. Hargreaves injury really needs sorting out once and for all. I hope his luck changes soon.

Regarding the match itself, was so glad to see Berbatov get off the mark with two very well taken goals (although he should have had a hat trick), and Rooney's nice little finish after the superb through ball from Giggs was great stuff. Rafael da Silva is looking every bit our future Right back, thought he had a fantastic debut in the CL. Nani had a bit of a rough game but he reminds me so much of Ronaldo in his second season with us, so not at all worried about him. Captain Rio was a rock once again. So all in all a good 3 points away from home defending our trophy. Could you really ask for anything more? devil

I'm one of Nani's biggest fans, just for the sheer entertainment he brings to the game, however I must admit he can be frustrating at times.

His decision making is all wrong and seems to get confused by his team mates reactions around him. When he should make a simple pass, he makes a run which lately most of the time has resulted in him losing the ball and the players around him show their frustration, then when he has the ball and should make a run, he makes a pass that slows the attack down cos last time the players got annoyed. So he doesn't seem to know what to do.

I don't know what's wrong with him lately, the crossing last night was just weird, cos to me he's one of the best in the game and he's played a lot better for Portugal recently too.

At the end of the day he just needs to get his head straight cos he's got more then enough talent.

Actually something else I've noticed in the past couple of goal celebrations, the players seem to be ignoring him, except Ronaldo. Seems like they're freezing him out or something... I dunno, not nice to see.

I've been hearing for a long time from many United fans comparing Nani's abilities to Ronaldo in his debut and second season and comparing their development.

Ronaldo has ALWAYS been a far better player than Nani.

Nani seems to have a fear of taking on players at pace, and is almost static when he comes up against a full back. He lacks any real skills, but when he does show some they are extremely predictable and lame.

Watch Ronaldo's debut: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6Jv8cA9mQt4

Ronaldo has always shown that he has had the potential to become one of the world's best. Even if his end product was missing and he over did it at times, we could see that 'this boy will be a star'.

Do you really see that with 21 year old Nani?

They are in no way similar and I dont see Nani improving too much further

----------------------------------------------

Yes, I remember that game. I remember how exciting he was but I also remember how the end product was generally elusive. That video highlights that point nicely. No end product.

Nani can produce moments like that, he already has. He's not quite as explosive as Ronaldo and he does fewer tricks but that video, minus a little pace and aggression, reminds me exactly of Nani. Thanks smiley

There are differences. Nani is not another Ronaldo and I'm glad, he brings something else to the team.

He IS frustrating to watch, however. I have a little running joke with a friend of mine that whenever Nani comes onto the pitch the random number generator gets fired up; each of his passes, crosses and shots (partciularly his shots!) appear to have a very random result. Sometimes it's spectacular but more often than not it's quite wayward.

I'm amazed you feel something like this can't be improved on? Whatever gives you that impression? That's quite a cynical outlook to have even if you don't support United. And if you don't support United it's both cynical AND naiive.

Almost every player improves with experience and that's all Nani is lacking right now. Decision making is his greatest flaw and only a fool thinks that cannot be improved upon at the age of 21.

We should give Nani more of a chance. As others have said, Ronaldo wasn't exactly pulling up any trees at the start of his second season, and look where he is now. He obviously has ability (nothing like Richardson), he's hardworking, excellent athlete. It's his decision-making that's the problem, but that will come with experience, so he needs plenty of minutes on the pitch. I think we should use Nani in easier games and Park against the better teams

I think Nani is short of confidence, he's not attacking the zones enough, and all too often he's actually slowing down the play. He has the pace & ability to really go at players, but he's not.

He also needs to get don't the gym & lift some weights, he gets brushed off the ball too easily.

Nani was frustrating last night both going forward and defending, he wasted so much possession and was too direct too early in the game. But all players have bad games and I wouldn't write him off on this performance.

It was worrying the amount of times the Aallborg full backs got in behind the defence because neither Nani or Ronaldo tracked back, both were rescued so many times by Evra and Ferdinand.

Give Giggs a mention, he was class last night, never wasted a ball......And what about Berbatov's goal celebrations, that fella is just sooooo over excitable!

I thought Utd looked woeful. Berbatov is showing all the hallmarks of being an RVN type player and we all know how successful the club was when he was there (getting ecstatic about a league cup win). Where has all Ronaldo's pace gone? He looked like a forty year old who smokes 40 a day and Nani looked like he couldn't beat anyone. Worryingly it took Giggsy, who is very much on his last legs, to set up the win with that excellent pass and it has to be remembered that this was only against Danish Minnows. Meanwhile the Gooners were destroying a top Portuguese side 4-0. I hope Utd aren't returning to those bad times in the early 2000s when the goals dried up. On Saturday we'll see how good the Bulgar is when he has to produce the goods against Blackburn away.
