World Cup England

just heard that Calderwood has been picked for England to play in next month's RLWC. Of course he's supposed to be playing for Scotland in next month's RLWC.

I suspect Smith has picked Calderwood purely on his performance against Leeds even though he'd been picked to play for Scotland and even though Calderwood isn't scottish. He probably isn't english either knowing the RFL.

I shouldnt't diss my sport but League as a sport finds it tough enough trying to attract serious media coverage in its fight for expansion and recognition. This Calderwood farce just makes the sport look like an absolute joke.

If he's picked for Scotland he plays for scotland. Simple.

bunch of jokers at the RFL

I think you all need to be VERY careful with this!

Owen will be accusing you of everything from being a traitor to the R word.

All I can say is thank god it wasn’t Wales he was supposed to be playing for, otherwise Owen would be up in arms.

"The lad just wants to play at the world cup. he's not bothered who for. Fair play to him i say. People get too het up over nationality issues these days. End of day best players out of anyone who is legible to play should be picked."

Can I suggest that in a competition like the WORLD CUP nationality is a major issue, that said however, apart from the 'Space Jam' moment on Friday, Calderwood should only be involved in the England squad to carry the water and clean the boots.......He's no doubt burned all his bridges now and will end up having no game time at all in the tournament, well if there's a God he won't anyway!!!!

Nationality is becoming less and less important. I couldn't care less who plays for which country, I just want to see some good rugby league. As long as Australia lose, of course!

Being Scotish I could not care less about Calderwood, although it would be nice if he never made the cut with England that would teach him to mess people about. In fact it is good that he has proved he never wanted to play for us in the first place. The only reason he wanted to play for us was that he would be garunteed a game

I totally agree with the author of this article, you should'nt be able to swap and change loyaltys because you have one good performance. He's not the only one either, a lot of players will find a way to play for anybody just to get a game in this world cup. Its a total farce.

Just responding to Warriorsharksmum. U commented 'The lad just wants to play at the world cup. he's not bothered who for. Fair play to him i say.'

Without getting into the rights/wrongs of the issue- is it not fair to say that he (Calderwood) is bothered who for!? Is that not the whole point!? He has turned down a GUARANTEED spot with Scotland to risk NOT ACTUALLY GOING AT ALL!

If he did 'just want to play at the world cup' he would have stuck with Scotland wouldn't he!?

Just felt I should make those points!!
