Rossi - a true Great

comment on the article

What more can you say about him?

People throw around terms like greatness and legend very loosely these days but in Valentino we have been lucky enough to have a bona fide Motorcycling Legend in our lifetime.

Congratulations to him on another World Title.

I think that shows why Rossi is the greatest, he needs to win even though he doesn't really need to in terms of championship points...

Also I would hate to see him in WSB, he's in the Elite competition, and going to WSB, unless he goes with a failing team to prove a point that its the rider who matters, would be a pointless exercise.

Valentino is a true champion! He will be missed when he retires. I am very happy to see that his 11 year old brother Luca, who has been racing bikes since he was 5, is already doing very well with Honda. He is also very cute smooch

The best memory of this season though...Rossi using the kerb to overtake Stoner @ Laguna. I never noticed he'd done that because i quickly flicked my eyes away from the screen because i thought Casey had blocked him out...and then he did it whilst I was looking away...

Oaffie, I'm with you on that - the Eurosport commentary team are far better, but they don't have Suzi Perry! Hubba hubba! Other than that, BBC broadcast in widescreen, Eurosport do not, and Eurosport is interrupted by adverts. But I'd still watch it over BBC.

Hi, all

I read it on Monday about Valentino Rossi’s MotoGP World Title and was very happy for his achievement.

I am not very much knowledgeable especially when it comes for motorbikes – I mean don’t follow it as F1 – the cars. Don’t know it that well by heart…

But as I am very much interested in great achievements and great sportsmen and sportswomen I do recall one thing about Valentino Rossi always. I think very close person to me told me and I still do remember that.

That he – V. Rossi - changed teams – from the winning Honda to go to Yamaha (struggled that time for quite some time) and still to manage to win back to back World Titles. And that person told me: “It is like Michael Schumacher to go immediately after winning the F1 World Title with Beneton to the struggling Ferrari and to win back to back World Titles”. Which we know wasn’t the case. Didn’t happen.

But with Valentino Rossi it did. And I searched a bit to make sure of myself and came across:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Grand_Prix_motorcycle_racing_season

The Quote: “Rossi's move to Yamaha, therefore, was a gamble on a manufacturer that hadn't had a world champion in 10 years. Rossi won the first round of the season and lay to rest doubts about whether the rider or the motorcycle was more important when he achieved what no rider since Eddie Lawson had done in the history of the premier-class: he won back-to-back championships on different marques, Honda in 2003 and Yamaha in 2004.”

It looks like 2004 has been one of the best sport’s years especially for me. Should write an article about that. Though I did miss Rossi’s achievement then.

Is he staying with Yamaha next season?! What will be the new challenges in front of him?

You, the more knowledgeable Moto GP followers, update me…

What about next year and Valentino Rossi – new challenges, or the same strong motivation and consistency as many here pointed out.

"What about next year and Valentino Rossi – new challenges"

-----------------

Absolutely.

I predict he will move into completely new fields of endeavour.

Like paying his taxes, for a start. laugh

Rossi is one of the best there's been - I've watched him control races whilst holding second and third places and you just know he's controlling it.
BUT - Agostini, Mike the Bike, Redman, Hocking (and others) ......... several classes in one day !
You just cannot compare the greatest riders of one generation to the greatest riders of another !
But the best confirmation of his ability was the switch from Honda to Yamaha ..... and then shoving it up 'em !
Top man, top rider - but we'll never know if he was the best rider ever! doh

Since the passing of Colin McRae I have been looking for a new hero to attach myself to. In Rossi I have found just that.
