Good point Kentishman...Stevens and Kemp have been out of form all season yet have retained their places for pretty much the whole campaign. Of course, the fact that Dexter has not been given a decent run in the side has made this decision even more bizarre.

Anyone suggesting Key should step down as skipper is talking nonsense. He has done a great job and is still learning it for me. I'm sure he will get better and better over time.

Kent need to have a good hard look at themselves. Ford’s comments on BBC Sport are a disgrace. They are professionals and are employed in a profession that most would give their right arm for. Why let Walker go when you have a kolpak player earning 3 times as much and not performing. Jones, Stevens and lately Denly have been extremely poor all season. Key should stop bleating about nearly being a good season. The best sides win when it comes to the crunch. Batting first at Lords.....really puzzling. Letting Dexter go on loan after getting ton against Somerset...really puzzling
In all forms of cricket we have conceded extras like the West Indies of the 70s and 80s although unfortunately we have not had Greenidge, Haynes and Richards to get the runs !!
Kent cricketers...No fight and seemingly care little.... So Angry

Some of the Kent supporters (well allegedly supporters) have been spouting some absolute rubbish - completely contary to the facts.

Kemp had been poor all season? - he started quite well - and without him Kent would not have reached the quarter finals of the FPT let alone the final, and without his innings in the 20:20 final Kent would not have got as close as they did.

As for the criticisms of Geraint Jones - yes he made some individual errors (like 4 byes in the 20:20 finals) but so did other players (Azhar Mahmood dropping Henderson in the same game before he got going was far more costly). Look at the stats - in the Championship division 1 he was the leading keeper, and his batting average was only fractionally lower than Key and Denly - who are supposedly top class batsmen.

I suggest you get your facts straight before spouting your inaccurate garbage.

Kent have a small ground in a nondescript town in the middle of nowhere. Cricket is a city game. Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Southampton, Nottingham - even London - are the centres of cricket, with the north-east (well done Durham) catching up. When the number of counties is reduced, Kent will be jettisoned.

None of this will burst the Canterbury bubble. The County setup revolves around the base (money) not the wider support and strength of cricket in North West Kent (don't say it too loud to the members but into SE London). IF the county folowed Durham's example there is plenty of young talent more deserving of a chance to shine over eratic Kolpakers. Even Saggers and Joseph play with more heart than them....

Don't quite see your arguement here as only Kemp hasn't performed from the so call Kolpakers. VanJaarsveld and McLaren have had tremendous seasons. It doesn't sound as if you have been watching Kent this year or following their scores.

Again don't get your thread here.
Firstly, Canterbury is not in the middle of nowhere. At the most it is 45 mins away from the north of the County.
Secondly Canterbury is a city and has been long before Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham came into being.
Thirdly, if the number of Counties are reduced (for whatever reason - you do not mention not in what context) I doubt if Kent will be one of those that do.
Those clubs that are not Test grounds will always suffer somewhat but that hasn't stopped Yorkshire and Lancashire having to fight for survivial in Div one this year.
Middlesex are in the Second Div and Warwickshire have just come back up. and this season was Notts first one back in the top div for a while.

Personally I would like to see the seat of cricket leave Canterbury for some more central place in Kent like Maidstone or at least allow more 4 days games to take place at Beckenham. But that is another debate.
