Say Nigerians buy us and Keegan returns...

Newcastle United

Will he have the same respect of the players?

I loved KK at the club, both times as manager but I cant help feeling it will be a bad step for the club

Say your parents had a fight about money and your dad walked out and then came back after a month after your grandparents gave them some money (I know, bad analogy) but I know I would be wondering would he walk out again on me if things got tight again?

I think if Keegan comes back, it wont be like waving a magic wand, I think it will take the players a long time to regain his trust, thus it will take a long time for performances on the field to improve again. I know what people say that footballers earn big money, but footballers do not live in the real world, footballers are selfish and childish.

Just look how long it took the players to work under keegan after allardyce left...

I know he is loathed by 99.9% of the fans but I think Ashley has started to steer the club in the right direction... He was prepared to invest £20m in players every year, it doesnt sound a great deal, but when you think about the youth system he had put in place we could have developed our own stars, supplement the transfer kitty with selling youth players for profit, then using the 20m to buy your "wow" signings, but this would have taken 3 or more years, not after our first full season... say we had gotten through this season, achieved a respectable 8th place, blooded some of the youngsters like Kadar and LuaLua, and invest further again, like it or lump it, all the players brought in under this current regime (seemingly not Keegan) were excellent buys for good money as well, it sometimes seems to me that the fans would rather the club buy Robinho for £35m rather than buy Robinho for £5m (inplausible as it sounds)

People sometimes forget that the club spent several days trying to resolve the Keegan issue, you dont spend that long if you dont care for the situation, after several days, keegan walked, and though I still love him, he has lost a lot of my respect

Bracing myself for all the pro keegan wonderland nutjobs!

It is great news to hear that we may still see Kevin Keegan in the Toon dug out once again

What is it about Keegan?
He's useles, clueless and as effective as a toilet roll in a thunderstorm.

He has no idea about modern football, no wonder that Ashley didn't trust him wth transfers.

Give Keegan the job, and every premiership club will be happy.

He motivates players and gets the best out of them. OK, so he's maybe not so good tactically, but he's just what you need if your team has acquired the dreaded loser mentality (just ask the Spurs fans) and KK will at least get you to first base.

Players love playing for him and he gives a lift to the club. Cloughie used to do the same at Derby and Forest. Never underestimate the power of man management in football. Tactics are fine, but they're the icing on the cake.

"Outsiders" have been tried at Newcastle but they don't seem to produce the goods. Keegan does. Simple as that.

Davethetoon - nice story... but fact is, he will walk away again. Just like everyone said he would this time after the last 2 times.

If you believe the papers... he has returned from a break in the US and has come back feeling rested... Jesus - he was only working 8 months, he'd just had 3 "non-football watching" years off onthe sidelines. Keegan is a joke, he hasn't got the mental strength for that high pressure job. Worst thing they can do is bring him back.

But there's nothing you can tell the average Geordie. If he comes back and fails dismally it'll be because he wasn't given enough money, or because of Wise, or someone else. If you bring someone else in and he doesn't have instant success you'll want him gone too, because he's not Keegan etc

Get over it. Keegan isn't a Fergie or Wenger, he's not even a Moyes or Hughes or most Prem league managers.

Yeah Davethetoon, nice story.

But by your "rags-to-riches" story logic, then Steve Coppell should be treated like a god at Reading, or Brooks Mileson should still be revered in Gretna.

Look at Mileson: took Gretna from the lowest tiers, got to the top flight winning three leagues and nearly winning the national cup. Then walked away when he lost interest.

Mileson can't leave Gretna twice because he killed them, but Keegan HAS left you mugs twice and you're still baying for more.

Keegan said last season that the Toon "couldn't compete with the Big 4".
Well, not now they couldn't. With a couple of strong league runs and a couple of seasons in Europe, maybe they could start to. But Keegan bailed after 8 months. How could he possibly achieve anything in that time?

Quitter.

And if he's such a good "man manager", how come he spat the dummy and quit because he couldn't handle working with players he didn't hand select? A great "man manager" works with what he's got.

Wake up and smell Kevin Keegan.

what is it with newcastle & their fans?
Why do newcastle deserve better? to deserve to be in the top half of the EPL challenging along with the so called top 4 ? Why are Newcastle in a crisis ? ?
I'm sure fans from coca cola league clubs will tell all geordies, you deserve NOTHING! big stadium, full almost every week, so what ? ?

my club manages an avergae crowd of 21000, I've been a season ticket holder for 18 years going through 3 divisions!
Am I any less deserving that I or my team deserves more success ? ? No, I doubt I am & I doubt anyone gives a monkeys ****!!
Newcastle are & always will be a 2nd rate club, they will never be able to attract World Class Players. Those players go to the BIG clubs that are in Europes top competitions. Newcastle are no different to the likes of everton or spurs in that respect.
Yes Keegans first spell was good, exciting football, nearly a title before messing it up at 12 points clear.........the man won NOTHING!
The rest of Englands football community is laughing at Newcastle, no-one has any sympathy.
Their last two managers have been out the game so long what was the point in bringing them in the first place, what was wrong with Chris Houghton covering til the "next BIG boss" arrives ? ? Surely he has more up2date knowledge of the game than Kinear / Keegan ? ?
& why keep harping on about shearer?
You'll end up with 2nd rate players, 2nd rate managers & the furthest you'll go is to the 2nd tier of Premier league football.
So get over it & stop feeling sorry for yourselves, alternatively you could come down & spend a season in the championship ? Maybe next time you're 12th in the Prem without a manager you'll realise thats not the definition of a crisis!

I thank you.

Speak to any real Newcastle fan and not one will say that we expect a top 4 finish. Despite what is printed in the media most fans are well aware that we have no chance of a top 4 finish even in the next 5 years.

But when the chairman promises the fans a 'wow' signing and big things happening, takes their season ticket money for the next 3 years, then completely goes back on his promise, thats when the fans become annoyed. Add to this trying to sell your best players behind the managers back and that is what the demonstrations have been about.

You just don't get it? You had a fan who was prepared to throw so much of his own money on the club that it bordered on insanity. Any other club would have bit your hand off for the likes of Ashley, but you think they grow on trees! Well that idiot has woken up dramatically and so it's over to you to dip your hand in YOUR pocket now. As with anything like this, you won't realise it's true value until it's long gone.

What do you mean by 'its your turn to put your hands in your pocket.' Are you suggesting the fans buy the club? That doesn't real make any sense.
Ashley was never a Newcastle fan. He was a business man who has invested so much money to make a return. Why else would he employ a Casino manager as Chairman and value the club at 480m.
I think it is very clear that you just don't get it. You know nothing about Newcastle and aren't really in a position to comment.

Make a return? You do not invest in football to make money, only idiots think like that with the exception of ManU. Ashley was putting his hand in his pocket to the tune of £2OM extra for players / wages, that's what you will need to make up from your own pockets. What a total waste by Ashley in picking Newcastle, he could have done so much good at another club.

The funny thing is that Ashley picked Newcastle because of the fans. And now the fans have destroyed the club.
