County Championship title chase on the BBC

County championship
comment on the article
Notts, Somerset, Durham and Hampshire are in contention for the title

The final round of County Championship matches begins on Wednesday - with vital points at stake for both ends of the table.

Nottinghamshire, Somerset, Durham and Hampshire are all in contention for the title - while Yorkshire, Sussex, Kent and Lancashire are battling to avoid relegation.

And we'll be bringing you full coverage of the final round of matches, every step of the way, on BBC Sport.

Pranav Soneji, Sam Lyon and I will be in the chair with live text commentary throughout the day, keeping you up-to-date with the twists and turns of all four Division One matches - which you can follow on the BBC Sport website or on your mobile.

As usual, if you're following a particular match, there will be live scorecards on each game on the site, and also on Ceefax - where the "at a glance" page, 357, is likely to be much-visited during the four days of the games.

BBC Radio 5 Live will also have regular score updates from the games, while you can also follow your own county via BBC local radio's coverage.

I think that the championship is effectively Durham's now that Patel has gone - I always thought that Notts were in the game with Patel at the crease, but I cant see them winning now with Read at the crease - will he be able to handle the pressure? winkeye

I'm a Notts member and if we lose this title I will be gutted. We'll be the nearly men of 2008 alongside Kent. If we lose one more wicket then its title over I feel, but Durham, should they win, have played some superb cricket and deserve the win. Congrats

For all those conspiracy theorists out there re Harmison's inclusion and others exclusion from this ,and the last, round of CC games please remember that, although centrally conracted, he was sent back to Durham for this season to re discover his bowling form. When he did he was selected in the squad for the Edgbaston Test but not selected to play.
KP then insisted that he played in the final test and then persuaded him to come out or one day retirement.Harmy agreed one condition that he could play for Durham once the 1 day series was over. The ECB agreed. If they had not Harmy would not have played in the 1 day series. That is the value the ECB have placed on KP who insisted hewanted Harmy to play. Broad et al played many more tests than Harmy in the last year.

THe ECB make many questionable decisions but this one was fundamentally sound and fair.Harmy did what was asked of him but he was not about to abandon his county of 10 years in their moment of need.

Incredible. Never mind sixteen years since they were a minor county, it's only eight and a half years ago since 'which county cricket team play at Chester-le-Street?' was deemed such obscure knowledge as to be worthy of a million pounds (the contestant chose to walk away, and was brilliantly invited to go to the Riverside a few months later).

This really is glory out of obscurity, and for that I cannot help but praise them.
