GB v Austria - day two

Davis Cup
comment on the article

Hello again

It's another beautiful, sunny day at Wimbledon. It's even quite warm - how lucky have the LTA been with this weather?

Anyway, enough of that - the big news from here is that Andy Murray will not play in the doubles today. Bit of a shock that. There are unconfirmed rumours he has a groin strain. So it'll be Jamie Murray and Ross Hutchins - who played together in Argentina earlier this year - against Jurgen Melzer and Julian Knowle.

Chris Bevan is your man on the live text today for what could turn out to be the crucial match of this tie...

We're lucky that Murray's prepared to play two singles rubbers! Why he should be expected to play in the doubles as well is beyond me.

It's too much tennis, especially with his chronic knee problems.

Pleased that Lloyd was forced to pick Hutchins, as we need to improve our strength in depth. Even if it means losing a few ties I'd rather see some potential.

Bogdanovic has had his chances now - hopefully Lloyd will cut him loose after this weekend. He was smiling as he walked off the court yesterday. Can't imagine Murray grinning after defeat.

oldbiddy, have you never been to the gym? An abductor is definitely a muscle in the leg, whatever else it may be - it is the outside portion of the thigh.

However, if the point you were trying to make is that it isn't a groin muscle, then I agree with you on that count. That would be the adductor, as you point out so politely to a medically-unqualified journalist.

So, we're struggling to beat the power and might of...er...Austria, the nation well known for producing world beating sportsmen, and tennis players in particular. Don't worry, we have the 'inspirational' captain John Lloyd to guide us to...er...inevitable defeat

I think Ross Hutchins played much better than Jamie Murray today. I also think Lloyd made the right team choice as you can't expect Andy Murray to do it all as he'll walk away from Davis cup like Tim Henman did for a while.

Grumpy Joe comment about English players of merit or lack of...

I note today that while both Murray boys have a tennis coach Mum ,the other lad Ross Hutchins is the son of the the chairman or similar of the LTA.

Doesn't this tell us that we do not fish in a wide enough pool. There must be other Andy Murrays out there but we are too elitist

like a lot of stuff in our country.

Money slowly ruining everything remotely fun as wealth (not the cream!) floats to the top. You wait: 10 years we'll need to pay for a 'Fun License'!

Murray should give Boggo the opportunity to shine by setting up the deciding rubber. I say that we all put our cynicism aside at least until he's been given a good spanking by Peya.

I say that we get Chris Eaton to play in future fixtures at Wimbledon. At least we know he can win a match there...

Look we all know that the Bogster is a bit rubbish but from what I saw of Peya against Murray, he looks a bit pants to. So in theory Boggy has a real chance of actually winning a match. That is in theory though... I back Andy to beat Melzer.

LOL!

If Melzer beats Murray then that choking gesture will come to haunt him! Wont happen though.

Come on GB!
