Trust condemn 'unjustified' price hike

Championship QPR
comment on the article

The QPR supporters trust, QPR 1st, have issued a statement condemning the latest price increases announced by the club.

The trust describe the increases as “unjustified” and say they “will have a serious effect on the relationship between the club and its supporters."

Below is the full QPR 1st statement and as always, I’d like your views on the issue and what you think the fans’ reaction ought to be.

QPR 1st acknowledges the role of the board in improving our financial prospects and shares its aims in wanting the club to thrive. It has always been accepted among the fans that there would be ticket price rises as the club develops over the next few years.

Nevertheless QPR 1st believe that the recently announced rises are unjustified and will have a serious effect on the relationship between the club and its supporters, as well as the fans of other clubs. The decision to charge away fans up to £40 for their seats will sour the goodwill that QPR has with other teams' supporters.

We fully sympathise with the response of the Board of Directors of Derby Football Club who are acting in the interest of their supporters and will be writing to both the Chairman of Derby and the Chairman of Derby's Supporters Trust (as well as the Football League) making our feelings known.

We regret to say that the club's action is consistent with its policy towards the pricing of season tickets, which was also dealt with in an insensitive and brash manner. The Board of Directors claims to take pride in QPR as a family club whilst expanding a prohibitive pricing structure that will fail to encourage families and young supporters to the club.

QPR 1st will continue to work with other QPR supporters groups to bring our concerns to the notice of the management of the club. We also wish to maintain a constructive dialogue with the club that will benefit everybody in the QPR community.

We regret that the directors have so far chosen not to meet with the trust or as far as we are aware other supporters groups. We also regret that the meeting due to be held in August between Club representatives and supporters representatives was postponed by the Club and we await confirmation of the revised date of this meeting, which we understand will be early next month.

In view of calls for protests from other supporters groups and on the messageboards we will be canvassing our members to find out whether there is majority support for the trust formally participating in such action.

£40-£50 to watch QPR (no disrespect whatsover intended)?
Plain and simply - NO.

I have been a home and away season ticket holder for several years but not this year as I find myself not as excited about the prospect of football anymore. I hate to say it but the whole experience is starting to stink. Coventry play away at Blackpool this Saturday and it's £27 a ticket. This is for a temporary stand with no roof, port-a-kabin toilets at one end of the stand & a small window selling 'food'(not enough for 1700 fans). also at the front of the stand when it's wet it's like a bog as it's not concrete. I'm seriously thinking of boycotting the game, it will be the first time I've boycotted but I don't see why we should have to pay £27 let alone what QPR are charging. I can watch England at Wembley for £30 and have great facilities. I think there should be a cap on Championship ticket prices of £20 and £15 for midweek games. Supporter numbers are dropping season after season, when will the league act on this? I think Cov (my team) are expensive and that's £24 a ticket and alledgedly our season tickets are the cheapest in the league yet we are now getting less than 15000 fans because the match day experience is rubbish.

Hopefully the FSF can get involved and maybe try involving people like The Sun who managed to convince some prem clubs to drop ticket prices.

Carry on the way they are and football will be dead.

Absolutely scandalous - I've visited Loftus Road as an away fan on a number of occasions and - not to put to fine a point on it - the ground is a dump. It's an insult to home and away fans to charge 50 quid - that the board of QPR believe that it is reasonable to even attempt to charge this shows everything that is wrong with English football - there's too much money in the game and until there's some rules in place about club ownership the game's going down a dangerous road. I expect the authorities will wait until a big name club goes bust before taking any action - it's gonna happen, just a matter of when

I went to QPR for £20 2 weeks ago and had a good view of the whole pitch. £50 is well over priced for the quality I saw on display but there are other options at Loftus Road.

the argumet of having to increase matchday ticket prices to meet budgets previously set is cr&p - it is to compensate for tryingto over-achieve to quickly. Any club who spends big on players without having the funds up front needs to get the money from somewhere and that is what QPR are doing - fleecing the very people who will fund the club in the future! I pay about £20 a match to watch decent football at Ipswich as a season ticket holder and an occasional support could pay between £24-30 for a standard seat, with various offers throughout the season. I think all away supports should boycott QPR and suggest home supporters do the same - otherwise if you keep coming through the gate, they will think they've got you by the short & curlies and keep on increasing prices.

I also agree with PNEEXILE's comments. The league should change it's rules about how much a club can charge away fans. They should make a rul that they can charge away fans the same price as similar standard seats that the away fans club charges. Therefore, if the likes of PNE or ITFC come to QPR, QPR can only charge £25-30 for tickets, but if QPR fans cometo PNE, they get charged £40-50 - but that would be a bit unfair on QPR fans, but would push the message home to the QPR board

As a life long QPR supporter along with many other R's supporters, have seen the recent very low and worrying times that have beset our beloved club with relegation, the fear of administration etc; I fear more NOW than ever, that our new owners are going to price us out, and take the heart out of Rangers!

I paid £400 for my 2007-8 season ticket using the "early bird" scheme. This season, the same seat, £599!!!! Now with the intended match day price increases how much will a season ticket cost next year?

I know of at least 3 families that have not renewed their season tickets this year because of their price.

All this and we are still only a Championship side!

Flavio, Bernie and Mr Mittal - Think of the loyal supporters that YOU are going to stop going to Loftus Road with your extortionate prices!

Their arrival at Loftus Road may be sad for a lot of people!

U R's (PS Message to 4theVilla - We'll beat Villa tommorow!)

I agree, football has lost it's soul.
The new stadiums and high ticket prices have taken football away from it's woking class roots.
I can honestly say that I will never watch live premiership or championship football again. The fans themselves could put a stop to the nonsense within a couple of weeks but they choose to fill the pockets of spoilt millionaires.
