Bangladesh Experiment

England

It just hasn’t worked has it. I was all for giving them a chance to compete against the big boys in International Cricket in some forms of the game, but their continual presence, particularly in the test arena, is undeserved. They are not competitive against all but the worst side ever to play international cricket (Zimbabwe in the latter stages of the Mugabe era) and haven’t kicked on in ODI’s since their admittedly hilarious fluke win over the Aussies in Cardiff. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

As Bangladesh become more and more uncompetitive, they devalue player, partnership & team statistics and records in the history of cricket. We are constantly told how good their under 19’s are and how many people play cricket in the country but the senior team just are not getting any better. In fact with the exodus of senior and junior players to the IPL, Bangladesh will only get worse. How long should they be given to improve or should they be relegated to the status of Scotland, Ireland or Holland immediately?

Or as they are another vote for the Asian Bloc in the ICC , will the status qou continue and further pointless tours of Dhaka and Chittagong will require to be undertaken.

"It is in threat of obscurity in Pak, NZ and WI "

I live in NZ and I Can quite assure you cricket is doing fine here. It is still the No1 summer sport.ok

They should create a proper second tier of test playing nations and utilise some of the stronger A sides to bulk it up. Even possibly include a couple of regional XIs - e.g. European and African excluding SA.
------------------------------------------

Something I've been saying for years now. The problem is the cosy set up of the Test nations, rather elitist at that. None of the Test nations would want to be relegated, even though there would be less mismatches and indeed matches altogether.

And with a second tier, maybe third and fourth, you make cricket accessible to countries that are shut out by the "invite only" nature of Test (and ODI) cricket. I'd love to see how Holland, Scotland, Ireland, Canada and Kenya get on in a Test against Bangladesh.

My sentiments exactly. Especially the meaningless records they create against BD will devalue genuine quality performances. When you think of the 70s and 80s there were world class teams playing against each other. After including Bangla it has become a joke.

Sri Lanka were the easy beats, and probably no better than Bangladesh are now ... and look at them now!

This is why Sri Lanka wins the Spirit of Cricket Awards

Check out this quote from Attapattu former SL Captain and leads Delhi Giants in ICL:

"It's a very strong message to other boards that have imposed similar bans," Atapattu told Cricinfo. "It's a message that the game is not ruled by any single body, and nobody should try to rule the game. I hope that other boards, including India, also let all their ICL players play in all forms of cricket. The players in India have taken a brave stand by joining ICL; they are very young and talented. Why not give them a chance now?"

...yet this is the same Sri Lankan board that didn't want Zimbabwe dropped from the international scene. I don't think it's brave to give up your Test career in exchange for tons of ICL money. Real bravery would have been to actually speak out against Zimbabwe and denounce their leader.

Will ICL cash filter down into Sri Lankan cricket as a whole? I don't think so. i don't see the immense IPL cash filtering down that far.

Bangladesh should be demoted from Tests and ODI cricket. Get that second tier set up. C'mon ICC, do something proactive for once.

ICL and IPL will show considerable development in fielding, throwing and running between wickets. Some of the best coaches and support staff are available and the professionalism is rubbing off young Indian players

That is the primary target beneath all the razz matazz

That you can see immediately amongst Indian youngsters and that sets a tone and entrry level for all aspirants and that is a huge improvement

Before players wandered aimlessly in a maze of List A and First Class games that no body followed

Now they havea stage to show their wares

That may not be that important to others but it is after all a domestic competition

Long Term this has to improve India's performance in all forms of the game
