Let's be honest, Carrick has his good points, but he's not in the World Class league United were spoilt with during Keane's career when he did dominate games and protect the back four.

Hargreaves and Carrick are both very good players, but as someone has pointed out, compared to the quality of Mascherano/Essien they're just lack that certain something to impose themselves on the game and pick it up by the scruff of the neck.

Firstly, Anderson is a boy with very little experience, but last season he still put Gerrard and Fabregas in his back pocket. There is so much to come from him.
This is a perfect opportunity for Hargreaves to finally cement a place in the center os the park. And we all know what he is capable of, so no big worries about Carrick.

Secondly, United cannot play Rooney, Tevez and Berbatov together. Unless all three are given total freedom. Something i think fergie didn't want because we were at Anfield. When Ronaldo is back one of them has to be dropped. But thats ok, competition is always good. All three will get there chances and the best will continue to play. Maybe then we will see rooney start firing. A team like United is built on competition and should never be afraid to drop a player, no matter who he is!

I don't see why everyone thinks that Carrick and Hargreaves are mutually exclusive to the team. Hargreaves is an athletic, aggressive ball-winner in the Gattuso mould while Carrick is a deep-seated playmaker in the Pirlo mould.

I think that when Scholes hangs up his boots - and if Hargreaves can stay fit - we'll see Carrick/Hargreaves as our regular centre midfield.

I feel sorry for Carrick as he has not long come back from injury and he has gone back again. So there is Hargreaves, Scholes and Anderson, and Fletcher if need be, and with Ronaldo back in training Utd look pretty secure regardless.

Aragantio?? United were dominant? I take it you are a dellusional United fan (nothing new there). I am a neutral - and I saw United and Liverpool totally even until the second half. Kuyt nearly scored once with a volley and SHOULD HAVE scored a second from point blank range - United were awful in the second half

zzz... Kuyt missed with two chances gifted by defensive errors; Liverpool didn't create a chance from attacking play until the second half.

United scored a sumptuous goal, created a glorious chance for Tevez and were enjoying the majority of possession playing 4-2-4 even whilst leading away from home. That's a dominant position to be in.

And yes, United were awful in the second half (and fading towards the end of the first). Which underline my point about the loss of Carrick.

Unfortunately even with Carrick fit, we still do not have a central midfield that can compare to the lads at chelski. Lampard,Deco,Ballack,Essien- these four players would all walk straight into the united team.

It hurts to say it but I think this season could well be chelsea's.

Although UTD do have a better attacking 4 in Ronaldo,Rooney,Tevez and Berba. Come on United prove me wrong!

Carrick is a consummate passer of the ball when he has the time and space. In some away matches when Man Utd are invariably harried, his limitations become apparent.... Scholes on the other hand is a class apart as he can execute a killer pass in a fraction of a second.
