Vettel was exceptional, Hamilton - good

Formula One
comment on the article

I can't believe what I'm hearing and reading after yesterday's grand prix.

How in the heck can people say that Hamilton was the driver of the day yesterday!?!?

He blatently has the best car on the grid, and he overtook several inferior cars on a wet track, including a Force India, Red Bull, Williams and a Renault. He also showed his lack of sportmanship in almost forcing Glock and Webber off the road.

Yes I understand we want more overtaking, but overtaking is at it's best when it is hard but FAIR, and lets not beat around the bush, u fan boys on here know he tried to do exactly the same thing to Raikkonen at Spa, and in thus doing so he gave himself a massive advantage in momentum. All I can say is thank god the stewards put their foot down and gave him the correct penalty even though they must have known they'd get slated for it.

and so to Vettel, how fantastic to see such a genuine and approachable youngman win completely against the odds. Yes he didn't need to overtake on the track, but that was because he ran the perfect race. He doesn't just win the driver of the race, he wins the drive of the season.

As do I left_toe_lace_ups, it would show real driver quality, and all those people that think Lewis is world class, either research or cast your minds back to the Belgian Grand Prix of 1995

If James Allen says once more that the Torro Rosso has Minardi DNA in it, I'll switch him off.grr Good job we don't have to put up with him much longer.

You've got to like Vettel. His cries of joy were like he'd just scored for the first time. I don't think I could take him seriously until he stops looking like a sixteen year old. There again, F1 will soon cramp his boyish enthusiasm, once the media have knobbled him. Hard to see where he could progress from Red Bull if he ever gets the chance. He's up against some mighty opposition for the top seats and I can't see it happening for him in the next 2 or 3 years.

I think thats just it with Vettel, he does look like a 16 year old who couldn't possibly drive an F1 car on the limit but somehow does so with incredible skill. He also seems a likeable guy without that air of arrogance the top names have including Hamilton it seems after all his success. It will be important for him to stay grounded and not get all big headed about it.

Sebastian Vettel is great. Did anyone notice what he had to say about Michael Schumacher? Did anyone ever listen to what Murray Walker ever said about Michael Schumacher? Of course Sebastian Vettel and Murray Walker can't possibly know as much about what goes on in F1 as the Internet armchair commentators whose favourite adjective is "arrogant" when describing Schumacher or Hamilton - or whwhichever latest target of the British junk press doesn't conform to their prejudices.
If Vettel has any more significant success and wins a championship or two, all the same armchair talkingheads will be branding him as arrogant, a cheat and generally bad for F1. It's so boringly formulaic and predictable.

You're absolutely right WFATD, because it seems that only Hamilton fans are claiming Hamilton was better than Vettel on Sunday....

Vettel put in a stunning drive no question but it really was his driving in qualifying that made his weekend and he was fortunate that it stayed wet for the race otherwise I think he would have had more competition.

Hamilton obviously made the error in quali and gave himself too much work to do. Had he qualified anywhere near the front he would probably have won comfortably. That is what will annoy him now because he could have and should have won the last 2 races but didn't and now has Massa right with him where he and McLaren might remember the butter fingers of last year.

Not that this takes anything away from Vettel. He did a better job than anybody else over the weekend in a Red Bull junior. The biggest upset really since I don't know when. Kovalainen couldn't get near him in a McLaren and the grown up Red Bull team were nowhere much to their embarrasmment!

Well, not much in the way of comments on Vettels win then. I can't remember who started this thread but I remember the gist of it. Vettel wins - a new winner and a great day for F1, agreed. Well done Vettel lad. A win, however does not a champion make. Of course he's not in a Ferrari or McLaren (maybe one day), and put him in a fast car and he'll be just as quick as Hamilton, or Kovalainen, ok so he was quicker than Kovy anyway, but not as quick as Lewis (especially taking into consideration the time spent overtaking). So what does this all prove? Being in one of the best cars does not a champion make either. My original point was that not many people are saying, yes great race Sebastian, most people are on other threads discussing Lewis Hamilton. Now why is that?

People are discussing Lewis because he's big for his boots and he's defiant he would have won had he have "pitted at the right time and put the right tyres on" he was never going ton win that grand prix for one simple reason, the McLaren's couldn't stand the speed of Vettel, Vettel pulled out a 9 second lead before the first set of pitstops and was able to ease his tyres and engine accordingly afterwards.

Hamilton is not the best drive rin the wet as he so handsomely demnstrated there and should not be compared to Schumi who is of course incomparable, Schumacher won 7 championships, lost 3 others on the final race of the Season and broke so many records, he is and always will be untouchable.

Alonso impressed me this weekend, 4th in a fairly average Renault, Kovy was poor, he didn;t impress at all and was actually getting dragged in by driver of the Season Kubica who again impressed in a best of the rest BMW, he did a fantastic performance and would be streets clear of the rest in a faster car. Massa was average, nothing over or under, Lewis was decent but lacked professionalism and then he decided to showoff infront of the press again, Webber was fab as usual and ended up 8th because he is the unlukiest driver in f1 bar DC, infact they make a greta partnership, the 2 unluckiest drivers in f1 in the same team wowee!

Kubica has always been rated higher than Hamilton from my perspective. it's important to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

o wait. Schumacher. that's exactly how he was.
whereas Hamilton is an over-rated, over-hyped, arrogant little **** who now just needs to buy a VW Camper Van and go touring with Jenson Button...
