Two year extension on his current deal which sees him stay potentially to 2012.

Do you think it's a good move for him?

I can't see him getting much game time as i personally see Foster as our future Number 1 however Tomasz is good enough for a first team place anywhere else.

Van der sar is the weakest link. His penalty save in Moscow papered over very major cracks in his seasons performance. This season has proved no better. It's time for Foster to be given a lengthy run between the sticks. As for Kuzczak his surname translates into English as Leighton.

I'd have to disagree. He may have his occasional moments of madness but he's still up there with the best. He was the best keeper in the Premiership last season apart from James and Green tbh. He is getting old though so I expect these moments of madness to come quite often.

Its fair to say that Kuszczak is a very competent keeper, but lets be honest hes no Peter Schmeichel. His gaff against Sporting springs to mind, when looking at his positioning and concentration. However Ben Foster is not exactly known for his concentration either who can forget the gaff which allowed Robbo to score past him.

I think SAF will just have to let them battle it out in training and decide from there.

It's no bad thing to have both foster and kuzczak vying for number 1 when vds goes, which i believe is the end of this season. For me, kuzczak in a united shirt hasnt always looked reliable, talented but mentally not good enough. Foster hsa yet to put a foot wrong. If one fails, then the other can step in next season. Perfect way to blood a new keeper i suppose; have two top quality ones and see which falls by the wayside. vds is still good, but just good, not incredible. Foster and Kuzczak are probably about the same level imo now

Come on guys, give VDS a chance. I think he's been a great goalkeeper for us. True, the time for him to retire is definatly coming but he has been great for United over the past few years. When he does retire I hope he gets the praise and credit that he deserves. He's brilliant at pentalties and one-on-ones (let's forget Saturday. Remember the 2007 Community Sheild? and last year's Campions League final? Call that fluke if you want but in the end it was VDS who won the game for United.

I'd say that Kuzczak and Foster will find the competition tough. Although, as Kuzczak's signed a new deal, he obviously thinks he has a good chance. Foster probably will get better so I think he might just edge it. I saw him a lot at Watford and he was consistant. He made a few errors but everyone does - Kuzczak in the Portsmouth game last season- also it would be good if Foster could improve a lot as England could do with a really good goalie.
Still, let's wait and see who gets the No.1 place when Edwin's left.

I can't understand all these WBA fans saying how good he is after he spent a large part of his career there as second choice to Russell Hoult and one of the most overrated keepers ever Chris Kirkland!

Kuszczak is a quite brilliant shot stopper. That's a fact that you cannot deny. His other attributes lack somewhat, such as commanding of his area, catching under pressure. But there is no reason that those kind of flaws can be sorted with a bit of match time to build up his confidence. At the moment, he is a very good backup, not sure he could be a world class first team keeper.

Foster on the other hand, has all the right attributes (am I playing FM08 as I talking about attributes? LOL) to become one of the best keepers in the world. He has time on his hands, still 4 or 5 years before he reaches his 'peak'.

VDS is still a good keeper. One of the best and most experienced in the Premier League. But mistakes creep in with old age, but he was like this at the start of the last season and if he is anything like, it will take a few games before he gets use to the pace of the ball and the game. I'm sure that as soon as he gets more match time these stupid errors will sort themselves out. You do not suddenly become a bad keeper or even a bad player overnight. VDS still has the quality to be of our main players, just like last season.

First things first, I CANNOT see Van Der Sar going on for much longer - he certianly should retire before his 40th because his powers are ever so slightly fading and evaportating.
A GREAT signing from fergie after they went the length of the earth and back to find a capable replacement for Schmeichal and it seems Van Der Sar was one of the most astute and able signings made by the red devils in recent years.

Foster - a good young English talent who needs to be given his chance so in the future he can stake his claim for the england goalkeeper spot ahead of others like hart and carson.
Being english, i would like ENGLISHMAN in our club sides so for this reason alone i would choose foster over kusczak.

they are both relatively young and both have time for improvement. surely SAF can see more potential in foster but all will be revealed when Van Der Sar finally hangs up his boots, once and for all...

We say ben foster is the air to he No 1 jersey when van der sar is finished and by is early seson form that might not be too far away however who is the better keeper out of foster and kuszcak it is debatable and foster has only got 1 or 2 competetive games for united so kuszcak has more experience in that department. Ferguson has to be thinking Kuszcak will be the new no 1 by offering him a new deal either that or he is getting him to sign a long term deal and then when he tells him foster is no1 he cant demand to leave
