He's broken his silence...

...And how! He's gone from never saying anything to laying it all on the line. Fair play to him, to comes across as a very sensible man. If he'd have come out with something like this sooner it may never have come to what it has.

Now he's done the decent thing, and the fans should follow suit by staying off his back until a new owner is in place.

Oh my god! Have the Newcastle fans in general read the statement and understood what this man has done for their club - he has ploughed money into the black hole of debt>>

Every owner does that - even a "proper club" like LFC. Dont you understand how it works anymore?

<<I fine Newcastle fans to be the most conceited, insular and arrogant fans out there, they think they are the best fans in the world, they are not>>

ALL fans think they're the best in the world. Newcastles fans think King Kev will make it right again - he wont and he cant

<<....They are a mid table club at best who will always be mid table because they have no appreciation of how a club should be run.>>

Oh so you know do you? What a twonk

<< Stop moaning and believing you are special you are not. >>

Strikes me you did the moaning. And wake up - ALL FANS ARE SPECIAL - jeez where are you from?

<<A fan of a proper club - LFC>> Oh a Diddyman, yes you would now all about debt now wouldnt you? Hows the new ground doing?

Yes a lot of owners do that, but Newcastle don't acknowledge this unlike some other grateful supporters.

Some fan are special! Not Newcastle fans.....

No I don't but then i don't profess to either unlike Newcastle fans who are self confessed experts.

The new ground has been stalled due to owner problems, unlike your club though we have a good manager, a good squad and are one of the top four. Also DIC are far more interested in our club then your shambles.

If you're going to respond to my comment please don't use words such as twonk and jeez.......maybe you should retake you're O level or GCSE English before you think about responding again - idiot.

As a newcastle fan i am a bit annoyed by everything that has happened recently.

Now ashly has said this i understand it all but i think that if he would of said something like that when he bought the club instead of when he is selling it then it would of been completely different. We (the fans) just wanted to be told what was happening with the club as we pay a rediculous amont of money to go and watch them but we still go.
With keegan, it sounded good when he came but did anyone really think that he was going to save us and then he said we woulnd get into the top 4 with keegan which we wont. But then we were told ashley didnt like him saying this but with what ashley just said it doesnt sound like he thinks we would.

And then the fans
How many teams can get a turnout of about 51,000 fans every week even though they havent won anything for about 50 years?

Why is it that so many NUFC "fans?" are unable to debate at a rational and respectful level. Their name calling and vicious ranting and raving make the clouds over Tynecastle ever larger and darker.

In this mood the question must again be asked: "who in their right mind would want to purchase this mess?". Strange as it might seem, in spite of this chaos, there is probably a line of martyrs begging to be named the next manager. Strange isn't it?

Mike Ashley's statement smacks of self-pity. The truth seems to be that back in May he was having too good a time playing at being the salt-of-the-earth billionaire answer to Newcastle's dreams to come clean about what now seems to be the case, ie that Newcastle United is a debt-ridden club without clout in the transfer market. If this was always the case, then why did he get so furious with Keegan in May when KK said we wouldn't break into the top for in the next few years?
Keegan's brutal honesty (a trademark of the man) was at odds with Ashley's fantasy romance in the stands. He still wanted to be seen as the salt-of-the-earth billionaire answer to our dreams.
Next, why were the fans lured with the promise of a 'wow signing' into renewing their season tickets? Ashley now says it was his policy only to recruit for the future, and we now know that Keegan had no control over transfers, and that there was no money anyway.
Ashley's fantasy of being Newcastle's beer swilling billionaire owner and darling was crushed when he saw the demonstrations against him prior and during the Hull match. His pretentions and his deceit made him the most hated man on Tyneside.
Now, we have a new Mike Ashley; one who poured his money into a debt ridden club, frugally restructured it to sustain its future, and one who was not prepared to let Keegan spend to get it competing immediately in the league. This is an unreconisable persona compared to the one demanding immediate progress from his manager.
Keegan recognised Ashley as a phoney, and called him on it at the end of the Chelsea game last season. He continued to call him on it until the day he left.
Do not be taken in by Mr Ashley's whingeing; he is a fraud who has been found out, and someone who was never what he claimed to be.
We do not need a billionaire of the club to buy us the Robinhos of modern football, we need a genuine owner who has the courage to back a genuine manager with whatever funds are available to build a team that will go out every Saturday and make us feel proud.

Who owns the club? Keegan or Ashley?

If I didn't like the way my boss was doing things in my job I would either walk or accept a sacking if our opinions didn't match.

Keegan receives a very large wage to do a job which is questionable to which he can handle that well anyway. He should be grateful for the job, earning his millions a year.

Christ! I'll manage the club in any way Ashley wants me to if I was given a few million quid a year.

Nobody's bigger than a club but what is important is stability. If the fans force Ashley out then what mess would the club be in then? Be sensible and look at the wider picture.

-------------------------------------

I'll quote myself - "Ashley's the man to back". Meaning, I believe Ashley is the man the fans should support to take the club forward because he can provide the club with long term stability.

---------------------

I wasn't having a dig mate, I was agreeing with you. Perhaps I didn't make myself entirely clear.

We had the same problem at Chelsea when Jose and Roman didn't see eye to eye. The fans obviously loved Jose because he was so successful and always won trophies for us but there can only be one winner and that is the person who is funding the club. Now we have Scolari who is winning many of the fans over. Managers can be replaced easily but owners can't. Newcastle should be thankful that they have a billionaire at the helm of their club. Without him they could end up like Leeds Utd. Nobody would want that, not even most neutrals in my opinion. I have always had a soft spot for Newcastle, don't know why but I have.

What a load of tosh. Without Ashley, Newcastle would make Leeds look like the well doers of football. The club was potless.

Can't argue with his statement - and to be honest I think he's been a good thing for this club, he's a damn sight better than Shepherd. However, if he'd said this when it all started then maybe everything could have been avoided and we'd not be managerless and ownerless (effectively) now. If this drags on into the January window - and I have every feeling that it will - then we'll not buy anyone. And if he's leaving he'll look to recoup some money and sell off our best assets.

However, going to Tornado33's comments - a crowd of "in the 20,000"s in the Championship isn't all that bad to be honest, although I think you're being slightly optimistic smiley I think we'd struggle to get that much. 20,000 isn't actually all that bad when you look at teams like Blackburn and Bolton who can only barely hold 30,000 and the fact that in Blackburn's last game they didn't even manage to break the 20,000 barrier.
