How is it high expectations? I clearly said in my post we can finish top 10, but late goals conceded will cost us places come the end of the season.

Using your logic we will concede 28.5 OG's as we have conceded 3 in our last 4 PL games. We have lost half our games by conceding late & all our results have been 2-1.

That does not mean it will be the same throughout the season. My point was we need to stop conceding late goals that will add up & cost us come May & I have every faith that GS will do this.

You all shouldn't be worried about conceding late on, you should be pleased that Defoe only scored 2. A great game of football though.

Yea Defoe is quality, He has proved time after time, play him week-in week-out & he will score. I think he has a shot a top goalscorer this season if he keeps up his partnership with Coruch.

disappointing performance from Boro in the 2nd half. We felt robbed against Liverpool but not really today as Pompey were far better than us in the 2nd half. Southgate gave a good honest account of the game afterwards, think he's a class act and is going to take Boro places

Error with my maths- 8/12 is 66.6%, or 76 points in a season, still enough for Top 4.

Not really, because own goals are unlikely events and will statistically clump. Winning or losing is very likely to happen. If you're trying to say four games isn't enough to work out percentages for a season, I'll reply by saying four games isn't enough to draw conclusions on our form for a season. You're complaining of what might happen if the current trend stays the same- I'm pointing out that if it stays the same, us Boro fans have every reason to be chuffed.

I agree, 4 games isn't enough to draw conclusions on our seasons form, and I wasen't trying to say 4 games isn't enough to work out a percentage. It's not as simple as win or lose, there are draws to consider. All I said was we have to stop conceding late goals before it costs us more than it already has.

I would be happy with winning 19 games 2-1 & losing 19 games 2-1.

And out of the 99 league games, we have won 39, lost 36 & drawn 24 v Pompy. So again, not a bogey team. Results against a certain team can 'statistically clump'.

all i can say after being at todays game is how was it only 2-1? we were average in the first half and still absolutely dominated, boro had 1 chance and obviously took it. and second half was boys against men they could'nt even string 5 passes together.

Conceding late goals may cost us, but I think our defending will improve. We're also conceding own goals right now, and both I think are down to the new goalkeeper and right back settling in. The late goals have put us in trouble only when we haven't scored more goals though. Against Stoke the late goal only counted because we missed hundreds of chances. Against Liverpool and Pompey it's because we got one goal and sat on it.

I think we need to be more ruthless in killing games off. If we'd gone 2-0 up in any of the past three games, late goals wouldn't have mattered.

Forget second half part! The funny thing is that is actually pretty true. Haha.

We have a very young squad of players, and I like what Southgate is doing and his ideas but I do think we need someone highly experienced who is a leader since we're lacking concentration, especially at the end of games.

Not suprised by the result, Pompey do have a better squad of players and I can't believe some people were being so cocky.

Good luck to Portsmouth this season btw, I expect you lot to be at least top 8 this season.
