Fifa rep slams Keane over Yorke

Sunderland
comment on the article

Fifa vice-president Jack Warner has sent a scathing letter to Roy Keane after Dwight Yorke missed Trinidad and Tobago's defeat by the United States.

The striker was set to play but was allegedly recalled by Sunderland boss Keane for Saturday's game at Wigan.

Joke of a Manager. He's only been in the management game five minute and look what he's done.

You're the joke mate. Just another pathetic Keane hater spouting crap.

If one considers that international soccer is above every other level in the world then players must be allowed to play at that level.

Many millions of fans would pay little heed to the result say of Bari and Torino or West Ham and Wigan; but England and Italy would be vastly different.

How can one man, or one club, be allowed to present a contract to a player, with a verbal clause which would prevent him playing for his country? That Keane has said such a thing is surely wrong and FIFA should admonish him for actions detrimental to the sport.

What then of the actions of Yorke, who may be naive and fun loving, when he has the internal pressure of wishing to play for his country, weighed against the practicality of keeping his job? Tough decision eh?

dribbles

Everyone in any prominent position is there because they are wonderfully talented and deserve to be there. Are you Forrest Gump or something? Sigh

and of course there's the self sacrifice and putting others and the good works they do before their own interests

branndyrecovery.

Like most Sunderland fans I think Keane, even now at this early point in his managerial career the best manager we have had for years.

As for your opinion. Actually it counnts for nothing as it wnon't change things.

At SAFC we consider ourselves very fortunate to have Keane Quinn and the consortium.

brandy recovery and all the rest of you pathetic Keane haters.

Roy Keane was a great football player both strong and talented.

Roy Keane will become a great manager.

Roy keane is right in standing up to Warner. Yorke informed Keane he was retired from International footbal in order to get himself out of a football backwater and now he has gone back on his word.

If I were Keane I would terminate his contract and free him up to play for T&T any time he wanys.

Agreed. But there's only so far you can push it by telling your own players that there c**p. RK does that at least once if not twice a season. At some point it will jump up and bite him!

Everyone seems to be missing the main point here. Regardless of what Jack Warner and Roy Keane are hissy fitting about, the simple fact remains: Dwight Yorke has retired from international football. He has announced this on several occasions. As a club manager, Roy Keane is under no obligation to release him for international duty as he has already stated that he has no international obligations anymore. Jack Warner has no business calling him up or including him on an international team sheet because he is retired. He can ask and respect the answer given; nothing more. As for Warner's comments about Roy Keane and 'people of his ilk' he should be mindful of the words coming out of his mouth as vice president of and a representative of FIFA. He is undermining his own integrity and that of his position with such loose comments. Personally Dwight Yorke is the 'clown' because he clearly cant decide if he is retired or not, or maybe he just likes to trot out in his national colours for the dwindling adulation of an otherwise finished career.

For Yorke this is just an ego trip, it's always been an ego trip. He's been a legendary player, but he's just arrogant.

Also, I think it's ridiculous that Jack Warner is trying to imply that Keane is a racist. Just as Scaffoo mentioned previously, Yorke retired from international football. Keane doesn't have to release him. So to say this is shows disrespect to smaller countries is ludicrous. Not only this, but how old is Yorke? He's over the hill now. His glory days at Villa and United are well behind him. He's just chasing money.
