It is a team of the year, and his good period coincided with the year in question.

For a team of the year clearly a good year should be able to launch you in to the side, otherwise t wouldn't really be a team of the year.

i went with this team before the awards.

Smith, Hayden, Jayawardene, Kallis, Chanderpaul, A Symonds (bleh, that was hard to admit), Mccullum, Kumble, Lee, Sidebottom, Steyn

I guess muralitharan for kumble isn't a bad swap and sehwag did hit a triple hundred. I do feel symonds had done enough to be selected as one of the most important batsmen even though I dislike him and sanga as WK is cheating.

The dearth of Aussies is ridiculous, as they're the best team
Based on Test match play, the only 'Englishman' I'd pick would be Pietersen, the Tony Greig of the 21st century.

Trust a BBC copy-writer to muddle the two British women in contention for Women's Cricketer of the Year. "Charlotte Taylor" (sic) plastered all over the cricket pages.

Anyway, many congratulations to Charlotte EDWARDS for winning it - and to Claire TAYLOR for coming a close second, both Brits in case anyone's in doubt.

im glad to see that someone is applauding chanderpaul for his efforts instead of calling him selfish. after all its not his fault that he scores half of the windies runs and ends left there not out at the end, thats what you get for being truly great in an average team.
Quite simply chanderpaul is one of greatest batsmen to play the game and anyone who cant see that doesnt know much about cricket.
