Browse: Cycling Tour of Britain route designby CS (U13260344) 08 September 2008 The TOB is a great British sporting event, but at what point did they forget how to design a route? FIrst stage good people want to see it visit LOndon but then the rest just seems boring. No Dartmoor, Dales or Peaks. The TOB neglects the 2 hotbeds of cycling (dales and Peaks) and instead focuses on the areas where most money can be earned. The best stages of races are in the mountains the worst stages are the lumpy transitianol type ones that the TOB has in spades. Please sort it out. Latest comments

AndyRAC (U7186829) posted Sep 9, 2008 It's not quite as easy as that. The funding comes from RDA's (Regional Development Agencys), who want a stage in their region. Also, it's still a new event.

kingCav (U13106701) posted Sep 9, 2008 Exmoor has plenty of challenge in it believe me - I've just come back from watching a very worn down looking group chasing at the finish of a tough route to the end of Stage 3.

deej1000 (U13304096) posted Sep 9, 2008 True that it hasn't gone through Dartmoor / PEak. It has however today (and last year) used Exmoor National PArk - and both years this has been a major part of spereating the leaders for the rest of the race with gruelling climbs and technical ascents (3KoM stages last year and 1 this year). The route will also go through the N YOrkshire Moors. The funding comes from a range of pots - not just RDS's - for exxample in the South West Somerset Council were the main sponsor recognising the vast economic impact of such an event on a rural economy which is not 'overflowing' with cash to any extent! Other sponsoirs included the Exmoor National Park Authroity and Devon county council. It is perhaps a little disjoined but what else can be done? The race needs sponsorship to pay for it!

IamAwesomeinnit (U13315052) posted Sep 11, 2008 As people have said, it's the local RDA that pays for the stage and most of them can't afford/don't see as cost effective having a finish and a start. Comment on this article
