The Hammers shortlist

Premier League West Ham United
comment on the article

Italians Roberto Donadoni and Gianfranco Zola are the two front-runners to replace Alan Curbishley as West Ham manager.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foo...

Slaven Bilic could still be a contender although may not be available until 2009, the Press Association reports.

And Michael Laudrup is reported to be the fourth man in contention, with an interview lined up on Monday.

Would be interested to know your thoughts...

Cheers
Frank

Look at it this way ,although Zola may lack managerial experience he will get on well with Nani and whose to say if we have more injuries he could be persuaded to come off the bench. As we have seen money cant buy success and on the face of it lack of it cant buy a good manager either.Lets hope we get Steve Clarke as part of the package.

As a West Ham fan myself, I find it curious that Paolo di Canio would be welcomed by many as coach, yet Zola is considered too inexperienced.

Zola is not as welcome because he used to play for Chelsea.

Yet West Ham icon Ron Greenwood used to play for Chelsea.

Roy Keane was not an experienced boss when he went to Sunderland but few would argue with that appointment.

I suspect if Zola is appointed, he may find a role for Di Canio which would be a good PR move.

We can expect attacking football and younger players to be encouraged.

His biggest task may be to take charge of the dressing room, and ensure diverse characters such as Lucas Neill, David Bellamy and Dean Ashton are truly united and playing well together.

Whoever it is he is going to need a extremely thick skin onsidering how West Ham "fans" have treated Curbishley and Roeder on his return as Newcastle manager!!

That aside i would plump for Bilic only because it would distract him from his International duties..apart from that i could not care less for you hammers

When the initial shortlist was released, Zola was quite honestly furthest from my mind. Bilic or Mancini were quite obviously the stand out candidates.

However, as more and more people have distanced themselves from the job, we have seemingly been left with only one candidate, Gianfranco Zola. However, the more I listen to him and, the more my initial 'Least Favoured Option' fills me with a sense of excitement and optimism.

The Chelsea history is irrelevant. Zola is a passionate and loyal individual; a gentleman, with a penchant for flair and attacking football. The perfect man for West Ham. All pitted against his blatant inexperience.

Zola, is by no means the safe option, but is certainly one that offers 'something different', a new twist on the rollercoaster that is being a West Ham fan.

At first his name represented a nightmare. Now I think the boy might well do good.

I just hope we snap him up before Newcastle realise just how good a candidate he really is for...

Can't imagine ol' Dave Bellamy causing too much of a stir, laugh (although I have heard he has quite a sweet left foot for a 75 year old) winkeye

No, but he could sure tell you how to run around on the grass efficiently and look after the place a bit better!
