Keegan

Premier League Middlesbrough

I was asked to re-post the following by a local journalist.....

'Since the so called 'glory days' when Keegan took Newcastle to within touching distance of the title (and then threw it away due to tactical ineptitude and a couple of cracking goals by Graham Fenton away at Blackburn,) Sunderland have been up and down like the proverbial whores drawers.

The post-1992 generation of Mags have never experienced relegation. Apart from the Mackems consecutive top seven finishes and a couple of 2-1 derby defeats at SJP they have been in the comfort zone, safe in the knowledge that Sunderland were in a constant state of turmoil.

Hence the present mood of total despair among the Geordie ranks. Their 'Messiah' has deserted them yet again and they vent their wrath upon the owner. The same owner who bailed them out of the potential financial 'meltdown' that he inherited from the previous regime.

The Mags regard Keegan as the spiritual leader of a mythical 'Geordie Nation' (a term coined by another dodgy businessman who made a fortune out of the club.) He is no 'Messiah.' His management record is poor at the top level and his way of dealing with adversity is to walk away from it. That is not opinion, it is fact.

Stability and Newcastle United don't belong in the same sentence. Until they resolve that issue the club will continue to lurch from crisis to crisis while the 'believers' will yearn for the return of the King.

As the record books prove, the 'glory days' for Newcastle United were in the 1950s, not the mid '90s.

There are no 'Messiahs' in the North East, although there are a couple of fellas who come pretty close.

Niall Quinn and Steve Gibson.'

I bet you wish that Roy has the same "tactical ineptitude" and you only finish second in the Premier League. Not bad considering that when he took over they were at the bottom of the league below! I'll settle for second at the Boro!
