Welsh FA Ticket fiasco

World Cup Wales
by gabbidon6 (U12508659) 06 September 2008
comment on the article

At five minutes to kick off against Azerbaijan a queue for tickets, four to five people across, extended for 100 yards from Ticketline near the ground down Westgate Street. Thousands gave up and went home. The ground has a potential capacity of over 70,000, and the only way to get a ticket is from a little shop near the ground. Pathetic. People queued for an hour and still didn't get in! Is the FAW run by Mike Ashley now? What a joke!!! I hope the FAW can get compensation from Ticketline for loss of sales.

Agreed FAW are useless and are ruining welsh football for fans and players alike.

To complain about fans not purchasing tickets and then to place one small ticket office on the day is an absolute joke!

Simple solution... buy them before the game day or go early! I was in that queue at around 1.30pm on gameday and it took me 20 minutes to get the tickets. If you order them before by phone you can just go straight in and collect tickets.

My son and his friends got fed up with the massive queue so decided it was quicker to get beck to the train station, return home and watch on tv rather than risk waiting any longer in potentially dodgy weather. What a disappointment for youngsters who wer keen to support their home team.heathersadface

This game should never have been played at the Millenium Stadium. They've totally sold out any idea of having a decent atmosphere at a game that might give us an advantage. Instead of the 'twelfth man', we had 50,000 empty seats, it's a joke and looks pathetic to people watching elsewhere on TV!

As for the tickets situation - Ticketline and the Millenium Stadium need to make more outlets available on the day. Fans need to meet them half-way by buying tickets in advance unless it's totally unavoidable, especially families.

The only so-called ‘fiasco’ in this ‘story’ is the extent of the grumbling from the people who didn’t buy their tickets in advance, or did so and expected to pick them up so late in the day. Just because our country is playing Azerbaijan doesn’t mean that you can turn up on the door and buy or pick-up your tickets half an hour before kick-off!

5 years ago you couldn’t get a ticket for this exact same game for love nor money; if you want to see your country play, buy in advance. It’s a World Cup game for Heaven’s sake! All those who complain at the situation only have themselves to blame.

Yes, the postage charges and admin fees are extortionate and the game should have been played at Ninian… but that’s not the point in question.

Two points here, and I didn't go to game.
1. The fans who turned up late only really got themselves to blame getting tickets late, hoprfully on the cheap I'd imagine. Also if only one ticket office was open, this needs to be looked at.
2. The FAW. Why price tickets at £15 upwards for Azerbeijan game? Just short of 18000 fans is £270000. Yet flog the tockets at £10 a time and fill the stadium; £10 * 72500 = £725000. An extra £500000. Who runs the FAW? Does no-one have any buisness accumen? And before any says about filling stadium for game against Azerbeijan, I remeber 5 years ago the stadium being near full when we beat them 4-0. Come on FAW, get your game together!!!!

Agree with chap above, you only got yourself to blame if you turn up half hour/hour before the game.
Common sense!!!
Although, FAW as usual doesnt help by only having one ticket window open.

Lets start having cheaper tickets for adults and even let kids in free or for a token £5.
Lets get the stadium packed or at least move it to a more realistic venue, Ninian/Liberty etc!!!

Anon FAW spokesman: "But a lot of people left it very late in the day. Inevitably, whether you are going to the cinema or theatre, if you leave it relatively late, there's always a chance you'll miss the start."

This never happens to me at the theatre or the cinema. But then they seem to understand their audience... and if there's a big queue, they open another desk at the box office.

Why couldn't that happen on Saturday?

What I can't understand is that if they have only sold 17,000 tickets up until the morning of the game why can't you pay at the turnstiles, they could have set up a few entrances to do this and allow the ticket holders to enter in another part of the ground, is there some sort of legal aspect surrounding this or just more ineptitude from the F.A.W.
