Jean-Francois Lucquin ended Rory McIlroy's hopes of a maiden victory on the European Tour today after defeating the teenager in a play-off.

Give your thoughts on Day 4 of the tournament, aswell as McIlroy's chances of a Tour victory in the near future.

McIlroy's Score Card:
Day 1:63(-8)
Day 2:71(PAR)
Day 3:66(-5)
Day 4:71(PAR)

Lord Lucquin didn't end McIlroy's hopes, Rory ended them.

If he can learn from this, as most of us seem to think he can, he'll be much the better player for it.

Would still like to see him partnering Darren Clarke in Wales in 2010.

I think nerves probably got the better of Rory on the second play off hole when he rushed at his putt and missed from only 14 inches or so. That was a very expensive lesson but I bet he never does that again. He is a youbg man, knows he has talent in abundance, and will win soon

That missed putt would have felt a lot worse if Lucquin hadn't holes for birdie, but you have to think, would he have holed it if McIlroy got his 4?

It's just a matter of time for McIlroy. He will have learned that he needs to take his time and gain some composure during high pressure moments. Still, he's not doing too bad for a 19 year old! yikes

It's great to see the French supporting each other week after week. No-one appears to go home if one of their number is in with a chance of winning - they all hang around waiting to spray the Champagne. That's what's called team spirit (even in an individual competition).

I'm sure Rory will learn from this - we've all rushed an apparent "tap in" putt and missed, haven't we (be honest)? And do we do it any more? No! Perhaps it shows the importance of a young player having an older caddy on the bag - someone like Pete Coleman would never have let him rush those final shots.

Someone, somehow, must get a message to Rory: DISPOSE OF THAT SILLY BASEBALL CAP NOW ! It is totally wrong for your features and hair style and projects the impression you are a gunk ! It does absolutely nothing for your image. You are much too good a player to be held back with the image of a gunk.yikes

He's probably thinking more about the X amount he's getting paid to wear it. Fair play I say.

Rory McIlroy should be congratulated. After a defeat which must have been devastating to such a young man, instead of just feeling sorry for himself, he stayed for quite a while signing autographs and caps for the waiting young fans when deep down he really didn't want to be there. I can't imagine many sports stars doing that at such a difficult time. What a superstar, I hope he quickly recovers his confidence and doesn't compromise on his delightful cavalier style of playing. The golfing audience needs players like him, Sergio Garcia and Camillo Villegas (who won his first tournament yesterday). They play the game we all want to watch.

Sorry that Rory slipped up yesterday as his win would have made it 6th Irish man to win on tour. There is no doubt he will learn to get over the finish line rather than going for the grand stand finish. He really great talent and represent us well in the future. His maiden win is not too far away.
