Shearer for Manager?

Premier League Blackburn Rovers

For those Rovers fans who were so keen only a few weeks ago to see Shearer offered the Ewood job, just imagine how you would be feeling now if you had been granted your wish.

Nobody can be that surprised that Keegan and Newcastle circus has ended in tears. It was always on the cards, but this is even quicker than most would have predicted. And had Shearer believed he was ready to leave the BBC for football management, then this morning I expect he would already be packing his bags and planning to leave Rovers in the lurch again.

At least this time Rovers are unlikely to be directly caught up in the chaos caused by other clubs’ lack of control in their boardrooms.

Looking back, I’m glad Hughes left when he did. Otherwise, we all know what the national press and the bookies would be touting around this morning.

For the first time in quite a while, we are unlikely to see the “Big Club ready to snatch Rovers’ Manager” headlines.

What a pleasant change!

They way Newcastle conduct the running of their club is damaging to the Premier League. They should not be allowed to have this merry-go-round of hiring and firing managers at will.

Had Shearer been Rovers boss then for sure he's be off ASAP. Damaging Rovers in the process.

Newcastle utd and its supporters need a reality check to determine what kind of club they are capable of being.

At present they're a loose canon with bags of cash.

And what were Blackburn when they won the Prem League? A small club with bags of cash because they had their very own backer with stacks of cash..... You bought that title..... Just as Chelsea & Man Utd do today..... Thankfully for me, you will never get your hands on it again..

You guys have short memories calling Newcastle..... Ever heard of double standards?

lofthouse 58...why don't you go back to your wn club site??
Bolton have always been a lesser club in what was Lancashire...I know cos my dad and one brother are their supporters whereas me and my more intelligent brother follow the mighty Rovers. What Jack Walker did for BRFC has no comparison to these billionaires moving in on the Prem today. He was a local man, proud of his heritage and his football club and did what he could to help them in a sensible and not rash way. I find it hard to believe that you as as a notlob fan cannot see through all the fantasy we are getting nowadays

Rovertony

You are living in dreamland if you call BWFC a lesser club than BRFC.......

Not going to argue this point with you.

There is no argument because you haven't had our success.

Then Newcastle Utd must be a lesser club than BRFC then too. You can't judge the state of a club by previous history...... You are no bigger than Hull City, Wigan Athletic & Fulham. What have they won between them? I wouldn't say they are lesser clubs than Blackburn Rovers.... Without the backing of the Walker family, you would be scrapping for fans with Burnley.... Reality check time!!!

Before this gets silly, let's review the data.

League Champs FA Cups L Cups UEFA

Newcastle 4 6 0 1
Blackburn 3 6 1 0
Bolton 0 4 2 0
Hull 0 0 0 0
Fulham 0 0 0 0

Hope that clears things up.

I wanted Shearer and I know if he had signed a contract with us he would have stayed at Blackburn. What is there to say Mike Ashley would want him at Newcastle,by all accounts he is supposed to be trying to sell the club to a guy who promises to reinstae Keegan.

Lofty,

Thank you for pointing that out. I stand corrected.
Bolton were runners up in the League Cup twice. My apologies.

Four FA Cups it is then. The last one as your name recalls it.
Nat was a great Centre Forward for Bolton and England. But indeed 50 years is a long time ago.
