Glenn Whelan

Championship Derby County

I have a feeling that Paul Jewell will be attempting to bring Glenn Whelan in on loan when the loan market opens again next week.

With Stoke bringing in plenty of centre midfielders, (Olofinjana, Amdy Faye, Salif Diao, Michael Tonge, Tom Soares)and with Jewell supposedly a long time admirer of Whelan it seems likely.

I remember us being linked with him last season when Jewell first took over and I know he was close to signing him at Wigan aswell.

What do you think?

TBH Serial - i know very little abouot Whelan. I thought he was a wide player but seems he is central. I know he was good at Sheff Weds in CCC so reckon he'd be worth a punt or 2 (would have been a good play on words seeing as he's irish if only they hadn't brought in the euro) But only if we terminate Robbie Savage first(his contract that is, although a more permanent solution would also curry favour with me!)

Was steady for sheffield wednesday and i found on football manager he can boss the midfield quite well (before anyone jumps on the "its just a game" bandwagon, you'll find that the majority of players that turn into superstars on the game turn out to be fantastic in real life, hence united signing two brazilian fullbacks who because of the game id already heard of them (rafeal and fabio) so its a pretty decent source)

Just spoke to a Wendy ST holder who rates him: not particularly creative, but gets tackles in & works hard - sounds like he could do the sort of job that 'Mr Girl's Hair' was bought for.

Ive always thought he was a good player. When he was at Sheff Weds he was there star player controlling games. Would be a good signing, far better than Lilly ale
