The thing that makes me laugh is that not one Newcastle fan saw this coming.
It was inevitable that the 'messiahs' 2nd coming wouldn't work, it never does.
Ashley needs to look 12 miles up the road to see how a proper club is run.
Niall Quinn is arguably the most football savvy chairman in the premiership and he doesn't interfere.
Thats how it's done.

What was Ashley thinking? In football terms in my opinion its a nothing decision Keegan may not be the best manager in football but is clearly the best for this job, simply his popularity with the fans will give him the security to get on with the job. Ashley had to do everything he could do keep him and he failed, I don't know if Wise deserves the blame but whoever does they have to be the casualty not Keegan.

I'm pretty surprised by some of the backlash here, suggesting KK wasnt the answer, and that he was a medicore manager. Theres been some very evident improvement under his direction since he took over, with the same team Roeder and Allardice completely failed with. Despite having nothing like the money of the other clubs (or at least, not showing it in transfers) I thought the Toon were pretty capable of competing this season, especially if a decent investment was made in a couple of players.

But this discussion isnt about KK or his ability - its about that sloth Ashley and his mini-me Wise screwing KK over. Instead they sold (or tried to sell) the players the club needed, as well as not bring any in. Smells like Ashley is too much of a businessman to not make some money out of its assets before he makes a departure, the final finger up to the fans.

I'm a City (Man) fan and it wasnt too long ago we were making the headlines, with our Doctor and his corruption charges, but things can turn around quickly for a club, and I sincerely hope the Toon Army gets what they deserve - a wealthy, understanding owner (preferably with some scruples) and a manager who can choose his team.

Don't make me laugh - Rock Bottom? Being in the Prem must be at the bottom for fans who have not seen their team win anything for years. As a Leeds fan rock bottom is League One. Whereas Newcastle are in no danger of relegation.

As Sunderland fan you'd probably think i'm revelling in this at the moment. Truth is I feel sorry for the mags... yes i said that!

I know plenty of mags, work colleagues etc.. and local rivalry aside there's always a good bit of footy banter. The fact is this could be any club and it's obvious it's just a toy thing for Ashley ... he's completely clueless. Even Freddie Sheppard said "it's easy to buy a football club, but very difficult to actually run one".

All i'd say to my local rivals is that things can change pretty quickly in the footy world. Only a week ago Man City fans were probably wondering what was going to happen to their club when their owner seemingly went on the run from the Thai authorities.... now look at them!

You just gotta keep the faith. Perhaps instead of a boycott you should consider wearing Sunderland shirts to the match instead

I think this really sums up Newcastle as a whole. Every time they're starting to look more positive as a team they shoot themselves in the foot. I can't see how they're going to acheive anything anymore. I don't think they'll find a replacement for Kev. I rate him very highly as a manager and I don't know of any others of his calibre who'd be willing to take the job.

These Guys talking about "rock-bottom" need to look around a bit more.
Davy Lad, that's a great idea. They could also wear Leeds shirts. Ken Bates will sell you a (Third Division) shirt for only £40!
Seriously, though,you will turn up in your expensive shirts in your thousands to watch YOUR team week in and week out.
Just like Leeds, Man City, etc. etc.
AND THAT'S WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!
Down here at Leeds, we got 20,000 for the Johnstones Paint Trophy mid week against Bradford, ffs.
The current heirarchy KNOW we will turn up, buy the expensive merchandise, pay £700 for our Season Tickets, whoever is in charge.
Because we are forever, same as you guys.

Keep the faith, heirarchies don't last forever, fans do!

In reality, Keegan had a lot of history at the club but was never the answer. His last few managerial posts have not been a major success. NUFC have had a long history now of settling with a short term solution when it comes to choosing a manager, they have also made the fatal mistake of firing as soon as a bad run comes. Ashley needs to sell for us to keep any morale and a long term, experienced manager is required. Someone of a similar calibre to Mark Hughes. Shearer isn't the answer for at least ten years.
