City takeover

Premier League Bolton Wanderers
comment on the article

It was one thing when Glazer rolled in with his millions, then even more obscene when Abramovich moved the goalposts much further, but this Abu Dhabi lot have just moved things up several notches.
What do they care about football? The sort of figures I've seen mentioned, they'll never recoup a fraction of it.
Glazer wanted to make a buck, and even Abramovich was never prepared to lose too much money, so it was never in their interests to completely kill football.
So why are they doing it? It can be little more than a plaything. Do they care? Well, the UAE is hardly a hotbed of football.
Or maybe they just want to stick one up Abramovich and Glazer? Hmmmm...
Of course City fans will be chuffed, who can blame them.
But we're quite possibly witnessing a death blow. It won't be long before the next gulf lot come in for Liverpool. Us little clubs always had a feint hope- but that is being extinquished, competing was getting increasingly difficult, but now it looks impossible.
So thanks, obscenely rich arab trillionaires who don't know how it feels to follow your team since you were in short pants, who have no real interest in the game. You're like the rich kids on the hill looking down at kids having fun in the playground and then deciding to buy it all for yourself.

The baby is asleep as they have taken Goldenballs off.... You know what I mean though!!!!

I blame Jack Walker.... He started all this off by buying a team to win the Premiership!! "The Team That Jack Built"... Before that anyone could win the top division.... Jesus.. Even Forest & Derby have won it in my lifetime!!

If there is any problem and the fans have a go at the arabs, and I mean a real go like the Toon fans have had a go at Ashley and Alan Sugar was threatened with his life, how long will these guys hang around? I reckon not too long.

i am absolutely disgusted. football has had the final nail in the coffin. none of these owners will know about the history and traditions in english football, and are using clubs like a status symbol. however, i can say one thing, i always said i want to see united totally out-done by the rivals in blue. but how would us bolton fans feel if we had new owners?
personally, i'd be happy that finally people will be investing in a small club and that we will be successful, but i like being a little proud hometown club which doesn't buy success.

good point... And look at the state of Burnley now!!

What caused our demise in the 80's.....? I remember chants of Warburtons out in the late 80's, but never understood why it happened..... Did we overspend on Len Cantello? winkeye

I wouldn't call us a small club.... Bury, Rochdale, Accrington are small clubs and we have spent nearly £25m over the past year, which is hardly peanuts... Just not in the same league as the mega rich boys..

Keep the faith t'other Notlob, there will always be a feint hope that 'little' clubs can compete with 'Big' clubs, no matter how big the gulf.
Eg;
BWFC- Spending in last 9 months- £26million
Northampton Town- spending in last year- about £26million less.

Notlob: Correct we are not that small...just think small. When Eddie and Gartside watch the games they see the same thing we do. But they do nothing about it. either scared to change or happy with the way it is. I'm baffled to be honest with you.

They are probably scared to change the style of football as they know the financial implications if we get relegated.....

Megsons brief is probably to stay in the Premiership at all cost... They may feel that the only way to compete and stay in the top flight is to play this way.

I don't agree with it, just trying to understand it.... As you say.... They are watching the same football as us!!

Notlob:
Aye...they just can't see that the way we play will always leave us struggling in the long run. Well maybe after all our players are fit Meggo might change it up a little. Keep yer fingers crossed.
