Middle Eastlands Catalyst 4 Change*Update*

Bloody Hell.

To avoid any more Hull Fans geting upset and Man Citys' paranoia levels are high enough;

This is what I propose to make the premier league more competitive throughout.

++Reduce the League to 16 Teams.

This will probably happen in the next 10/15 years anyway.

FIFA have stated their desire for each nation's Top League to have 16 teams and are working to a world calender, to promote/re-instate the importance of International Football which I applaud.

+++Get The Old Firm in.

The "Credit Crunch" is a real issue for today, and Football is far from immune, attendances are going to suffer greatly this year and next, but perhaps even more relevant is the effect it will have on SKY/Setanta Subscriptions, Sky are losing 1,000's of Customers by the day.

Also Internet Streaming of Fooball Matches from around the world, both legal and illegal is rampant.

Football and Subscription TV have gone hand in hand, it's probably the main reason Sky has 7/8M subscribers, but as soon as it stops paying...

You can see that in the next round of TV Deals it is going to be extremely difficult to negotaiate the sort of money coming in now unless Football offers something EXTRA, can you imagine what would happen if it were to drop 30/40%.

The latest SPL TV rights contract, negotaited this year, has been structured to end on the exact same day as the EPL in 2011.

Putting Celtic and Rangers In The EPL might well kill Scottish Football as we know it, but is that a bad thing.

It would give the Football Authorities that something EXTRA.

+++No Relegation For 3 Years.

Stability in the Boardrooms and Dressing Rooms

A new start that is one thing.

But what is the point if it is just the same Teams at the top and the same panic at the bottom?

Three years free of relegation would allow Each Club to attract the kind of Investment that they need to compete, and afford the Managers a chance to Build a Team, feeling more comfortable using the Youth Players, without the pressure of throwing them in too young and dropping the odd point here and there, and hopefully stop the Managers being sacked every five minutes.

as I said

Give Everyone A Chance To Their House In Order.

+++Strict Barriers Of Entry

If you have a stadium with 21,000 seats, and no prospect of redeveloping the ground ie Fulham, you will NEVER compete with Manchester United or Arsenal, they have 3/4 times the Matchday Revenue.

So 40,000 Stadium minumum within 3 Years or your out, if these rules exist to stop Conference Teams being promoted into the League, why the hell would you not have them in the "Best League In The World"?

Finacial Security, the Clubs, as in Germany, should be debt free and run "not-for-profit", the Owners should bear the Debt, NOT the Clubs.

Squad Sizes should be limited, as in the Champions League and UEFA Cup, each Team should name A first Team Squad 30 Players and a Development Squad (Under 22) of 23 Players, No More, No Less, that's it.

And…

For all the same reasons above

A Premier League 2 of 16 Teams

No Relegation or Promotion For 3 Years.

Strict Barriers Of Entry
As Above but (20,000 Seater Stadium Minimum).

If Rangers and Celtic moved into the Premiership within 4 or 5 years the league would end up the same as here in Scotland.

It is inevitable that Celtic and Rangers will compete in a league including Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea within 10 years - it's called "Market Forces".

I'm not so sure that THAT league will be called "The Premiership" or that it will be based in England!

It's far more likely to based Europe-wide and also include Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Internazionale, Bayern Munich etc, etc.

The market appeal for such a league is too great for "profit-hungry" businessmen to ignore.
Already guys like Berlusconi, Abramovich, The Glazer family, Hicks & Gillet etc will have teams investigating the structure and timelines of such a league.

Should Blatter and Platini continue to be so far removed from the business realities of football as an entertainment indusrty (rather than a sport), then it may even appear sooner rather than later.

Many of us of a certain age have already seen the "likely" realities of a Worldwide sport for profit and political control on the big screen - It was called "Rollerball" and it showed pretty much the way mass marketed sports entertainment will go as we progress through this Century.

Cristiano Ronaldo is already the real life "Jonathon E"!! winkeyewhistle

..... I live in the USA now and can see that thier infrastructure towards sports is far superior to that of back home,draft day is a huge event.
-----------------------------------
You're completely missing the point that American sports are insular. You couldn't possibly have draft day in a world competition.

Can you imagine it? "On behalf of WIgan Athletic, I choose Javier the new Bolivian wonderkid to come and play for us"

There's no way Rangers and Celtic would give up their European places

"Gloucester Old Spot" Porcine Arial Display Team (U12463072)

Old Spot, fair enough,

But are you saying that the Premier League in it's current form is good for the game?

Do you think that it will get more or less competitive in the future?

And do you enjoy watching Teams promoted to the Premier League with great Joy, only to be summarily dismissed and utterly embarrassed as they return to the Championship, more likely to go down again than go back up as they struggle to recover from the legacy of financial battering from their Season In The Promised Land?

If you don't give a toss that's fine,
but I do.
