JamboKev (U10960689) posted Sep 3, 2008 great keeper and more importantly a fantastic profesional. it really is a shame he's had to retire. he was great signing for hearts all those years ago from rangers & he proved his class when he moved down south continuing to pull of some breath stopping saves. Good luck Antti & enjoy your retirement. total respect from all hearts fans!

irvinf (U5477188) posted Sep 3, 2008 Although having never seen him play live, Antii was always one of my favourite keepers. Last season at Fulham he seemed to be pulling everything out of the bag. It's a shame that he has been forced to bring forward his decision to retire early.

Saintly (U2912184) posted Sep 3, 2008 As a Saints fan, he was one of the best who ever put on a Saints shirt. Great keeper, great man, great personality. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do. NIEMI!

Geo_static (U3943305) posted Sep 3, 2008 What a shame to see such a great goalkeeper hang his gloves up. As a rangers fan i feel aggrieved that he never really got a chance to show how good he was before he ventured off down south. Having lived in fulham for 7 years and been to watch the team several times it was clear Niemi was a top player a great shot stopper and a match saver so to speak. posted Sep 4, 2008 Certainly, the most professional goalkeeper to grace the SPL. Very underated by his peers in the EPL. He has caused no fuss to any club, he has always put his family first. It would be fitting if a club in UK could offer Antti a testimonial IMO. From a Hearts point of view, I would welcome him back to the club anytime, and hopefully as a goalkeeping coach.

humanfrog (U9111223) posted Sep 4, 2008 I was at the Derby game last year in the Putney end (or whatever we call it now) and he won us that point, two saves in particular were oustanding, the derby fans were on their feet already celebrating, until he brought them back to reality.

CottagerLuke (U9010929) posted Sep 4, 2008 Great keeper loved watching him play for fulham. Did wonder when this day would come though as he did seem to be getting knocks more frequently last season did he not?

sufferinsaint (U10460438) posted Sep 4, 2008 Fantastic keeper - the best that ever played for Saints (yes I know Shilts played for us too). Could easily have played for any of the top clubs and won more praise. In his prime he was worth at least 6 points a season to us on his own for the games that he made sure we either won or drew and it is was this difference that kept us just above relegation for a few seasons. Top man - all the best for the future.
