Some Nice Reading

Premier League Manchester City

Read the interview on the city website with Robinho.
Seems the lad's got his head screwed on - he knows he's going to be a big fish in a small but growing pond, but he's aware the pond's growing, recongises the ambition at the club, and knows we have good players now like Elano and Jo.
And you need look no further than the picture to dispel the rumours about him regretting it.

Let's believe the genuine sources, like mcfc.co.uk, and ignore the wildly scribbling pens of the over-excited journos.

he seems to have his head screwed on

don't get it twisted, if Chelsea had matched City's bid on Monday night he'd have gone to Stamford Bridge in a heartbeat. He didn't go to City for the money, or Elano/Jo, he went to City because he had no other choice. After his press conferance on Sunday, he'd put himself in a position where staying at Madrid was no longer an option so when City became the only club willing to pay the asking price he was stuck. Unless City dramatically climb up the league instantly expect him to throw another tantrum and by next year he'll be a Chelsea player.

The only thing we know for sure about Robinho is his desire to become the best player in the world and under the guidance of Scolari, that would become a realistic possiblity.

How much is he getting paid per week ? (robinho)
-----
Apparantly I read that he's getting 160,000 a week, seriously!

And reportedly Chelsea was offering him 70,000 a week! This was double the amount he got at Real, 35,000!

So he's almost getting five times the amount at Man City now!

As an arsenal fan this new takeover frightens me, espescially with comments from the new owner about signing the likes of Ronaldo, Fabregas, Torres and the like. This will signal an end for any hopes of holding on to star players, as soon as they show some quality they will be snapped up. We already began to see this but fortunately the clubs involved did not have the spending power.

e.g
Adebayor to Barca/Milan
Ronaldo to Madrid
Torres to Chelsea
Kaka to Chelsea

But now Man City appear to have enough money to buy any player and persuade them with even higher wages.

How long before ticket prices soar and you can't get in to see a game.

Boy I'm so glad u've got such audacity to move to Man City. You've sent a clear message to the Madrid hierarchies. I hope they'll stop disrespecting their players. Im a Chelsea fan and Im not sad he didnt join us but glad he left Madrid but I must admit he's sounding over ambitious. The money he'll get but trophies, NO!!!

Clearly the money played a large part, but I think there was also the fact that he really didn't want to be at Madrid anymore. He rarely played up front there and the coach/board clearly didn't value him that highly. City was the only option he had, it's not like he rejected Chelsea, Real never accepted a bid from them.

Still though, I'm sceptical that this investment will bring success. The new owners want to sign all the big names for crazy money, but those players aren't really for sale. When Chelsea got bought, Abramovich funded his managers, he didn't dictate tranfer policy until later on.

Players like Lampard, Drogba, Carvalho and Essien weren't widely considered to be among the best in the world until after they came to Chelsea.

It'd be nice to see a bit more competition and some more outstanding players in the league, but who will come before City have CL football? Only players like Robinho, whose position at his old club was basically untenable and a few players who'll move for crazy wages and a clause that says they can leva eif City don't have CL football by the next season. Come to think of it, reckon Robinho has one of those?

Sadly City are City - one of the great non achieving teams. They never won anything and they never will - no matter how much money they throw at it. I wonder why some teams can be successful - win things - and some, like Citeh, never will.
