If Premier League strikers were rock bands

comment on the article

Just imagine the if every Premier Leagues striker had to be compare to a band, here are my thoughts:
Alan Shearer - The Beatles: Simple the best, to this date has the record of being at the top, which doesn't look like it will ever be broken. There are simply none like him any more.

Thierry Henry - The Rolling Stones: Very Good, different to the Beatles but comparisons have been made.

Robbie Fowler - Nirvana: Brilliant, idolised, but didn't last long enough.

Dean Ashton - Oasis: A pale imitation of the Beatles.

Andy Cole - Red Hot Chilli Peppers: Idolised by many but generally over-rated, still okay but over rated.

Michael Owen - Guns N Roses: Part of a dying breed and over-rated, plagued by absence.

Dennis Bergkamp - R.E.M: Worshipped by some but not by enough, because the role they played was pivotal, under-rated.

Peter Crouch - Fall Out Boy: Not recognised as good by those who care about image, those who realise image is meaningless can like them.

Dimitar Berbatov - The Foo Fighters: Good but not as good as what has been before it.

Teddy Sherringham - Pearl Jam: Over shadowed by others around him at the time, but still really good. Went on for much longer than expected.

Alan Smith - Good Charlotte: You really like them when you're about ten, because they appeal to you, but as you grow up, you begin to see their flaws.

Wayne Rooney: The Fratellis: Failed to live up to early promise

Surely Rooney is the Stone Roses - fantastic in his early days but utterly disappear for years on end and only returns as some pale imitation of Norman Whiteside (who would, incidentally, be Motley Crue or some other awful hair band)

David Beckham - Oasis

Popular but never as good as some made out. Continues churning out dreadful performances even though he's well past his sell by date.
-------------------------------------------
Dennis Berkamp - The Pixies

The original and the best of a new breed of Prem players, now half-forgotten and overshadowed by the inferior imitators that followed.
-------------------------------------------

Steve Mclaren - Milli Vanili

Got found out on the big stage.
------------------------------------------
Joey Barton - Pete Doherty

Had potential but degenerated into a jail bait waster.
------------------------------------------

Craig Bellamy - Robbie Williams

Talented but allienates his colleagues who eventually conspire to get shut of him.
