Robbie Keane's role

Premier League Liverpool
comment on the article

Liverpool's use of Robbie Keane against Aston Villa at the weekend raised some eyebrows.

Their 20.3m signing from Spurs started the game on the wing and was largely ineffective, before later moving to his usual central position.

Match of the Day 2 pundit Lee Dixon has analysed Keane's role as part of his weekly tactical view for BBC Sport.

Do you agree with Lee? Where do you feel Keane would be best utilised? Can he strike up as good a partnership with Fernando Torres as he did with Dimitar Berbatov?

Let us know your thoughts.

rafa is not a quality coach for a big team like liverpool. and he is an expert of turning strikers into midfielders.
he has done that with Kyut, with babel, and now making keane another mid.
such a boring football...the 'all reds' are playing.

i said this was inevitable when keane left tottenham and rafa talked about him playing on the left. keane was great at spurs because spurs were willing to play him in a way that suited his game. if he was played just behind torres, then chances are, is that he will fulfill his potential.

problem is rafa is making the same mistakes as houllier - buying good/great players then playing them out of position. kuyt was top scorer in the dutch league for feyenoord but plays right wing for us, how can he score when he is not in the right place? Its a stupid waste of money. You wouldn't hire an engineer to do your accounts!!!

Do u suffer amnesia?? Kuyt played upfront for 2 seasons in the time before Torres arrived and low and behold was total garbage....that is why he lost his place to Nando and that is why he is 'accomodated' on the right. With the arrival of Riera we are likely to see Kuyt dropped to the bench, Babel on the right, Keane slotted into the hole where he loves to play and Stevie G playing centre mid where his surging runs are more effective.

Players being played in their NATURAL positions at last.....fingers crossed!! ok

Kuyt only arrived on Summer 2006, so can't have played up front for 2 seasons before Torres arrived.

I agree he wasn't great, but he was adapting to the English game and working as a secord striker behind Crouch, not as a front man.
I personally think using Kuyt as the front man and Keane just off him would benefit the team and Kuyt equally.

Oh, and before anyone says anything, I'm suggesting that Kuyt take the front role in the current absence of Torres, not in place of him...

Mate...Crouch barely started a game!!! He kept picking Kuyt ahead of him as a lone striker who got zero service and also made zero space for himself!! Though the 2 seasons thing is wrong...it just felt that long as Kuyt was that frustrating. He is like Kezman was...awesome in Holland but just not good enough for the premier league......an excellent squad player though ok

Get Lee Dixon on 606, we need more of his 'tactical analysis'.

Him and Rick Saunders would get on like a house on fire.

I'm not 100% in whole agreement with Lee Dixon, but I do believe that playing Robbie Keane out of position is a major oversight and when you are struggling for form as Keane is, then playing out of position isn't going to help things is it?

Play him through the middle next match, with decent service and he'll do the rest!

I dont see why the bbc have even bothered to post this article from Lee Dixon. Every football fan who actually has half a brain knows Robbie Keane is a striker and not a wide player, and that the solution to get him scoring goals is by playing him upfront alongside Torres, so why the hell does he go and write an article about it? Lee Dixon is by far the BBC's worst pundit as he always says the simple thing, and is totally biast to Arsenal. He is also boring, i dont see why BBC continually put him on MOTD, and im sure fan's like me are sick of hearing his mediocre, boring and mindless comments on the simplest solutions to football problems. GET RID OF HIM!
