England v India Women

One-day internationals England

Have we all been misled? (and when I say 'all', I mean both) ... we were led to believe that the Indian women were ranked 2nd in the world and were a dangerous combination ...

I watched England v South Africa at Lord's a few weeks ago and was hugely impressed with England, in particular Brunt and Isha Guha with the ball, and Atkins and Edwards with the bat, but in general they looked miles better than a poor SA team ...

I was looking forward to the India women arriving, to see a decent competitive series ... what do we get instead?

India Women are currently 14/4 after FOURTEEN overs, a run rate of 1 per over ... Brunt has 3 for 8 and Guha 1 for 6, off 7 overs each ...

While England were hugely impressive against SA, and looked a true world class side, are they truly that much better than all comers?

I would love to see England women play one of the counties in a friendly - on this form who knows what could happen?

How many other times have two same-named players been out for the same team score? Can't imagine it's ever happened before. I thought it was a typo in the scorecard at first.

Congratulations to the ladies for winning comfortably yet again.

is this some kind of revenge article for the England (men's) team losing the Test series to India last year? If I am not mistaken, Eng were ranked 2nd in the world too when India beat them in Eng. laugh

I have to say that having been to the majority of the England v SA games and the first two England v India games then England look a class above at the moment, which bodes well for the forthcoming World Cup in Australia and World Twenty20 in England.
I don't really get why people are saying that the Indians don't have the support as when the women went there last year, at one game there was in excess of 20,000 people watching. Compare that to here when you're lucky to get 500 watching then think that shows who gets the most public support. Perhaps it's time that English cricket fans started supporting the womens team more?!

Having been to the majority of the England v SA games and the first two England v India games, I can honestly say that England have been a class above, which bodes very well for next years World Cup in Australia and World Twenty20 in England.
I'm not sure why people are talking about Indians not supporting their womens team as when England women played their last year then at one of the games there were in excess of 20,000 people supporting. Compare this with the 500 or so you're lucky to get at womens games over here then who do you think gets the best womens support?! Maybe it's about time English cricket fans started to support the womens team more...

England are performing brilliantly at present but one or two points of caution.

1. South Africa are not one of the top 4 countries and the gap is quite big between the top 4 and the rest.

2. Some of our batting against South Africa was not as good as the bowling. Dodgy shots and stupid run outs (and stumpings !) for example.

3. India have batted first in both ODIs in poor batting conditions and performed poorly (granted we bowled very well). It would be interesting to see England bat first to see if they can post a 250+ on a sequence of games.

4. Goswani doesn't look completely fit and so doesn't seem as fast or as dangerous as on the previous tour (she is the Indian strike bowler)

I should add that I am staggered (and delighted) at the size of the India victories. I thought India would provide a much stiffer test but there is still time for them to show this.

England have certainly improved a lot over the last 3 or 4 years. Squirt, Shaggy, Tails, Lottie & Lyd are looking like a world class top order, Nunny looks like she's capable of knocking anyone's head off, Isha and Holly are unplayable. Backed up by great fielding and squad members that put pressure on these 8 to perform.

The challenge is to maintain the performance level through this series and into the World Cup and World 20-20 next year.

80mph, i'm disappointed with your comment - there is absolutely no malice in my article, it is about how successful the English women are at present and about how the rankings look to be a bit innacurate - i'm also disappointed that some people have tried to sidetrack this into yet another 'us and them' racist rant ... the women's game needs support, and those sorts of attitudes won't help ...

It is good to see people are taking an interest in women's cricket.

England do seem to be playing very well, which is great. I am quite disappointed at how the Indian team has faired given how strong they were when they toured 2years ago. As a previous posted said SA are not in the top 4 of women's cricket and so were not really expected to challenge England.

I think it would be interesting to see how our women's team would get on playing a minor county maybe. The major counties I think would be far too strong but would be pleased to be proved wrong!
