I have nothing against Bullard but come on Capello there are better midfielders out there. Where is he supposed to fit in? He wont start & I couldnt see him coming off the bench when we are losing & changing the game.

Ashley Young has been one of the best wingers in the Premiership but doesnt get in the squad?

GK James

RB Brown
CB Ferdinand
CB Terry
LB A.Cole (best back 4 we could choose with the choices)

DM Barry (only option in DM)
CM Beckham (hasn't got the speed of a winger anymore but has the passing range)
CM Lampard (never was quick so is a good partner for beckham

RW Bentley (deserves his chance)
LW J.Cole (can't leave him out, always a threat)

CF Rooney (in this case Rooney has support from creative players who can move around and provide a great pass)

Whats this guy on?!! Rooney upfront on his own!! So let me get this straight you think our best plan of attack is to play someone out of form and not scoring as a lone striker?! get a grip man!

Theres only one way we ever play well and thats 4-4-2 with quick wingers and full backs, one def mid, one att mid, one big guy up-front (ashton or heskey) and one small guy who scores goals (like owen or defoe)

Its not rocket science!!

Stop trying to pick a system around players...start trying to pick players for a system.

Also anyone who thinks beckham warants an england shirt clearly knows nothing about football. The rest of the team has to carry him because he can't run anymore

Can't make Capello out. Why the hell is Beckham there. He was a waste of space in the last game, One good cross, umpteen useles corners and free kicks.

The only plus for me is that Crouch looks to have gone and Woodgate has also disappeared. If only Downing and Wes Brown would follow them.

Brown is equally as bad as his clubmate Neville. Can't pass, always out of position and is slow getting back.

I am surprised at the anti Rooney feelings expressed here but agree they are merited. He was a precocious young talent but now looks pretty ordinary to me. However, you have to give him ten out of ten for effort and work rate. Problem is, there's always a chance of the Red Mist and a ten man side.

There really ought to be room for SWP nd like many have said, where is Ashton. Can't really see how he could have picked Owen. He's barely match fit and was quite unnoticeable on Saturday. In a side as poor as Newcastle he should have stood out like a bright light but perhaps he's being dragged down to the team standard.

woah no need for a go at me was only a suggestion asking for your thoughts!

I used this system to get the best out of the chelsea players, who are guaranteed to play and to support rooney another guaranteed starter, the support could work as it has done with teams such as Chelsea, Milan and Barcelona who use the system at times.

there is one alternative to this in to drop Beckham and play Rooney as a number 10 behind Heskey.

The team I picked would be good against Andorra to see how it works. and maybe alterations needed against a team who has a good chance of beating England. compacting the midfield will give us less chance of losing, which tbh would be amazing for us as we lost last time to croatia!

sorry that did come across as a tad aggressive didnt it....

i just getting tired of people suggesting weird systems when its obvious what to play and who to pick...

What to play = 442 with players to fit the system i described before

Who to pick = players on form (ie not rooney, not beckham, not bentley, not barry? chelsea players are on form at the mo and probably warrant their place

once again - not rocket science

4-4-1-1

GK 1.James

RB 2.Brown
CB 5.Ferdinand
CB 6.Terry
LB 3.A.Cole

RW 7.Bentley
DCM 4.Barry
ACM 8.Lampard
LW 11.J.Cole

AM 10.Rooney

CF 9.Heskey

this would get the best out of Rooney and allow J.Cole, Lampard and Bentley to get some shots in as Heskey is a tank who annoys defenders, he may not score but does the job of getting marked to allow the midfielders to break through the open defence.

or with same system who would you replace the off-formers with due to who is in the squad, and if alternatives were fit?

well you hit the nail on the head there...

because cappello's messed around for so long we are now entering the crunch games with no idea of systems or backup

i would say defoe and ashton upfront
jcole or young, SWP, lampard (cos gerrards out) plus a def mid (we have loads of them in england!)

def picks itself although surely we have a more attacking full back than brown in the prem league - someone who can be a replacemnet for richards and will get forward

I think that Jimmy Bullard in the England squad is an odd choice. Kevin Nolan would have been a good choice in my view, he works hard and always puts in 100 per cent. Some of these Englands squads are a bit unusual as well, it can only be worrying as an England fan to see people guessing what are team is. The formation has got to depend on who we play, 4-5-1 against the bigger teams and standard 4-4-2 against smaller nations, that would be my suggestion. Also well happy to see Rob Green back in the England squad, he's a quality goalkeeper.

I like Defoe but i don't think he's up to the job of replacing Owen yet! Great prem striker but hasn't made that all important step up to international level! Look at Ian wright, collymore, fowler and Andy cole never quite cut it at the top. Think Defoe could be another one of them!!
